Was just reading about Opti-Glass. Sounds like it'd be worth trying. Might stop some of the rock chipping. I only use my van for camping/travel...

Wow - much less than I spent. I'm always so impatient to get stuff fixed. I should've asked here first. I was so worried about finding one too. ...

More travels with Jade...

by jaders on 12-16-2013 at 05:33 AM
Last summer I took a month-long trip to Colorado - Boulder, Denver, Aspen, Glenwood Springs and the Rocky Mountain National Park. Boy it was HOT! The only drawback in my van is no air-conditioning. It would be a big investment to fix the AC and I keep thinking how these vans tend to overheat anyway - wouldn't running the AC at 95 plus (outside temp) just make it more likely to overheat? I'm tough and can live without it... but it would be nice to have everything working.

Finally a long trip...

by jaders on 07-08-2012 at 03:15 AM
Well, in May I made it to Santa Fe, New Mexico and back in about 2 and a half weeks in the blue bus. It ran great and I thought it was remarkable gas mileage. Kept good records and I went 3400 miles, spent $600.00 on gas and averaged 23 miles per gallon. Pretty good mileage for a van if you ask me...

The only glitch was that upon returning to the Oregon border from Idaho I hit a terrific wind/rain storm. The van was getting buffeted around pretty good but when I hit the windshield

Anxiously awaiting a long trip in my van...

by jaders on 03-31-2012 at 06:55 PM
Finally I have my van just about as far along as I need and am leaving for a 3-week trip to Santa Fe, NM in a month and a half. I just can't wait. I've spent about half my life savings so I could travel the whole US in this van, and this will be my first big trip since I bought it. The one sad glitch is that the air conditioning has turned out to be a hassle as there appears to be a "blockage" somewhere in the system and finding it looks to be super expensive, as I am definitely not

It's Puzzling...

Why a 56 year-old gal with no mechanical skills just HAD to HAVE a late 80's Toyota van. I've been wanting a van for traveling and camping, and researched ad nauseum every van that possibly appealed to me. Volkswagon Vanagons are plentiful and I drove several, but everything I read about them was off-putting - not to mention they seem to me very overpriced in spite of poor mechanical track records.

Last Feb. I finally found an '87 Toy Van in Gresham, Oregon (I'm in Portland.)
