Here's a few pics I had saved on my computer.

The conversion was done by: Country Homes Campers in Mountain View, CA

The following was done by:Truck & Van Works Incorporated (239) 768-1007 12451 Metro Pkwy Ste 108, Fort Myers, FL 33912

These next two are odd-balls (don't know who did them).

hows that sofa bed? is it long enough to sleep on or do your feet hang off? also did they do any reinforcing to the original roof before they did that? especually what did they do after the roof cross members were cut away?

Holly cow! Doesn't look like I'd be doing this one! Even though the first pic looks sweet.

The roof cross members offer strength, but probably not as much as you're thinking. They are there primarily to support and reinforce the body metal. Without them the metal would be prone to "oil canning" and would not be able to maintain it's shape (in some conditions). The van will retain enough structural strength without the roof as long as you leave about a foot of "horizontal" metal around the periphery. If done right a frame of rigid material around the opening can adequately compensate for the loss of the roof. Tim

I don't know anything about those vans. They were just pictures I found while surfing eBay, craigslist, etc.

well, made some strides on the top mechanism tonight, got the idea from some folding tables, basically the roof lifts in 2 parts, first one end pops up like a westy, then the other end pops up, think of it like the legs fold down on a card table, except they hinge up, kinda hard to explain but i built a prototype out of a manilla folder, some tape, and a couple of paper clips as the legs, and it functioned as i intended it to. woo! some of the parts I will be using are garage door tracks with a few rollers, a couple of gate latches to hold the arms in place once up, and either cables to limit the travel or maybe gas struts to help with the lift and also limit travel at the end, should be pretty wild!

I also have the dream of putting a poptop on my van someday. I can't really tell what the OP is intending with his conceptual model though.

If you or someone you know had a conversion done on a van. I'd be interested to know who made the top. (make? Model?)

Back in the day, HECO/Harmony Enterprises, Inc. in Harmony, Minnesota made pop-up camper tops for vans. However, HECO may be out of this business now:

    "HARMONY ENTERPRISES. 704 Main Avenue N., [Harmony] MN 55939; (507) 886-6666. Components
available for any Harmony roof-lift system. Heco camper canvases are available for Palomino, Puma,
Trade Winds, Winnebago and many more."

An innovative fellow in Ireland makes the CAMPY van concersion as seen here. His contact information is at the end of the video:
