View Full Version : Previa AllTrac front axle shaft sourcing

I need to replace the front drive axles on my 93 AllTrac. The boots are wasted and there's a pronounced clicking noise when going around tight corners at low speeds, especially in reverse.
I thought that these would be easy to buy at my local O'Reilly's, but they came up dry.
Prowling online I see many sources of Cardone rebuilt axles, but the info presented isn't consistent, even on the Cardone site. My van has ABS, and that is clearly an option. Where I'm still a little confused is whether there is a difference between the right and left axles. Some info suggests that they are the same, some suggests that there's a right and a left, but I haven't found anything that nails it down. I guess I might be able to answer my question if I took mine off and looked them over, but I'd like to keep driving the van until I have new parts to put in.
Anybody out there know for sure?
Thanks

I have a set of rebuilt front axles for 91 All-Trac w/ABS brakes. After inspecting my originals I ended up replacing the boots & re-using. The rebuilt ones are still sealed in their original boxes. If you're interested, PM me and I'll get you the brand, part numbers, and we can talk $$$. Tim

I finally got around to replacing the axles on my '93 Alltrac Previa, so this is a follow-up report. The Cardone 60-5050 units seem to work on both sides, even though that part number is generally listed as being for the right side.
Both outer boots were shredded when I got the van in the spring. The right one did a lot of clicking during low speed turns, especially in reverse. They began to make an audible roar during a short road trip this last weekend, so I figured I'd procrastinated long enough.
I had a helluva time getting all 12 of the inner flange bolts busted loose. I suspect that they'd been there for twenty years, and didn't want to give. I thought I might have to torch them, but brute force and hefty tools prevailed.

Yes, these are grade 8 bolts and they have a hefty torque. I've done this job before & they always require a bit of grunting. As long as you use the correct tools they will typically come off without rounding/stripping or breaking. Thanks for the update. Tim

Well I just recently changed the right half shaft on my 92 awd. Fairly straight forward. Bought a new cardone unit (actually two) will replace to left when the boot gives out. Looks to be a good part and got it at a great price online
