Compatible Manual Transmissions for an 87 TV 4wd

Hi All,

I'm currently a new owner to an 87 TV 4wd Auto. I bought this as a project and among other things, I was wondering how people felt about the auto trannys in the 4wd setups and if making a transition to a manual would be more beneficial.

Changing the transmission to a manual isn't first on my list but I was also wondering what transmissions are compatible for my TV so I can start keeping my eye out.

There's an 85 2wd manual currently, would that be compatible?

4wd & 2wd transmissions are similar but the tail shafts & shaft housings are different. This has been covered in the forum before. Here's a few links (there are more):
