Hello!
Can someone help me to decide what type of engine oil to use in my Previa? It exceeded 197 000 Km and I saw in the instruction to write 5w 30 or 10w 30. Considering it crossed fine kilometers can I use 10w 40 or 15w 40 or even 15w 45?
Cheers!

Keep in mind the thicker oils can cause starvation issues (may not provide adequate lubrication to all parts of the engine). Unless you're experiencing low oil pressure, high oil consumption, or knocks, I would stick to 10w 30. If you are experiencing one of more of these problems, then using a thicker oil can help alleviate these things (but only prolongs the inevitable). If the engine is still in good shape, stick with OEM recommendations as a thicker oil may possibly create problems. Tim

PS: 10w40 probably isn't thick enough to hurt anything (especially if you're in a hot climate), but I'd still lean towards 10w30.

10W40 will be fine... that's what I run in mine to reduce oil consumption and engine wear... fuel efficiency will suffer though due to pumping losses
but it is more preferable to use 5W40 or 0W40 to reduce cold start wear due to high oil pressure/low flow issues

Toyota's requirements are very lax... it requires only API SG oils, which is a long replaced standard.... best to find an ACEA A3/B4 oil for best wear protection... at the minimum API SL or SN

Thank You! I'm using 5w30 and I was afraid that rare oil is not enough densely to lubricate to "worn" parts of the old engine components... Thank to God, Pressure is fine ( but I need to chack sensor for pressure becouse bulb is off, other bulb for level is ok. Previous owner made a mess of connectors and cables ), Consuption is ok only sound of engine is little "metalic". I thought it was chain, I have asked some people and they say that is probably losen exaust or valves?!

I would ask you one more question. On this Previa the brake caliper is with one cylinder. Does it fit calipers from other Previas having two cylinders?

Sincerely Nenad

no, they are not interchangeable... the bolt spacing are different

if it sounds "metallic" it could mean anything... such as detonation... what octane fuel are you running? 91 RON should be minimum required, however, Toyota tuned and tested the engine for best performance on 95 RON

I'm using 95 but I drive it on gas... Maybe becouse of that?

natural gas conversion?

Yes

seems to be "normal" due to how it burns... the factory equipped natural gas Toyota Crown Comfort taxis used in Asia are this way.... most use the weak 3Y-PE engine, making only a whopping 78hp... most are also automatic... can you imagine how bad it gets?

I wonder if adjusting the ignition timing will help

Can you explain to me how to adjust ignition timing? Can't find on net
