Hi all.

Since I've got the van, the orange turbo light has been on most of the time. Come to find out this is indicative of a turbo overboost. I'll be damned. From what I have been able to put together it likely has something to do with the wastegate valve. It could be as simple as the hose going from the waste gate actuator to the turbo being disconnected or having a leak. I am going to try to pull a vacuum on the waste gate actuator to be sure it does not leak and also try to put pressure on the rod to see if it moves. If it is seized I am hoping some lubricant/penetrant can get it operating again. If none of his solves the problem, I may be pulling out the turbo for a few more tests and possibly replacing it….before she blows!

Does anyone have a copy of the RMO25E manual and would be willing to scan the pages relating to the turbo? On that note, where did you find it? I would love to pick one up! :)

I know adamh has replaced his turbo. Any insight adam? Do you have a part number and/or a good source for parts?

Any thoughts from anyone?

Thanks!
Matt

hi matt, just got back , i'll scan the pages relating to turbo and mail them over. if you mail an address.

just a thought, if its overboosting I doubt you will have to replace the turbo only the regulator... which is your diaphragm actuator. or as you say check for leak or sticking wastegate mech. If its stuck open you get no boost and will snap shut when you free it. I have not encountered sticking on this engine yet but have on another engine when it stuck open I got no boost and had to tap the actuator rod axially with hammer and it spring shut. if its stuck shut then I guess work it with penetrant spray . you should be able to get the diaphragm end off (two bolts) but the rod end is a circlip will be difficult. if you loose diaphragm end you could lever it holding the housing, or if leaving actuator connected use long nose pliers on the rod and lever against something. Its strong but you should be abled to move it. you will need remove turbo air pipes to get access to actuator from above . not tried below , perhaps try.

Not to discredit anything that adamh has recommended but if all else fails here's a link to a new turbo charger that should fit the model year-

Thanks for the insight JDM Van and Adam. I did not get a chance to get my hands dirty over the weekend, but hope to get into it sometime this week. I'll report back.

Adam: Thanks for offering up scanning the turbo pages. I did come across a digital version of the manual, so I am good to go. Your suggestions are inline with any other information I have come across, so fingers crossed it will be a relatively simple fix.

If anyone in the future needs digital copies of any portion of the RM025E I would be more than happy to offer them up.

JDM Van: Thanks for the link to the turbo. And yea I have come across Ace Answers.....killer site! I was hoping to get my hands on Dave Mason's temperature alarm, but it sounds like he has discontinued making them.

Thanks again!
Matt

So just to follow up on this, it turns out this was a problem I talked myself into while the van was getting a cooling system work over. In my mind I flipped the green and the orange turbo lights. Turns out all was well….

But , for future reference, Ace Answers had a ton of info about potential turbo issues, as well as a ton of other great stuff!!
