Engine Oil Tank Reservoir

Hi everyone.

I'm new here with a used 1994 Previa LE. Just noticed my oil is leaking and will be fixing this by finding the source. My question on the other hand is that it seems my oil tank has yet to even be reducing from the leak... Does anyone know how I can check if the pump for the reservoir works?

I'm sure there are other ways to test the pump, but here's one... if I change the oil and fill it through the main port under the drivers seat only to the bottom dipstick mark it is low enough to activate the pump. If I remember right it will pump with the key in the ON position but the engine does not actually have to be running.... makes the pump easier to hear. It is a kind of whirring/whining sound which lasts for about 10 to 20 seconds if I recall. The pump may do this several times before it gets the oil to the level it likes. So next time you have a convenient opportunity to reduce the oil level to the lower position on the dipstick it will be a good time to listen for the pump.
