View Full Version : Sliding Door Lock Sticking

I've had a few episodes of the sliding door lock seeming to set itself and needing a good hard pull on the inside lock slider to unlock it. On locking the driver's door occasionally you'd hear a buzz coming from the slider lock. It would lock sometimes, but not all.

Now it's cold, and it seems pretty well stuck in the locked position.

Turning the key in the sliding door lock cylinder doesn't do anything, but I am leery of turning the key too hard.

Using the front passenger door keyhole to operate the power locks will make some sound in the slider, but no real action.

Any ideas or help?

An update--It sounds like the power lock is actuating--good click on lock and unlock. It you turn it to unlock twice in a row, you don't hear the good click.

The lock slider on the interior is in the unlocked position. You can't really slide it back to the locked position.

It seems like the actual lock mechanism in the latch isn't really connected to the lock cylinder, power lock, or interior slider.

Several years ago I had a sliding door lock problem. I forget exactly what the specifics were, but when I took the inside trim panel off to access the mechanism I remember that the problem became glaringly obvious. So if nobody else chimes in with some specifics I'd just take a quick look behind that panel. If you have a shop manual it's not too bad to get it off.

I'll pop the interior door panel off when I get a chance in the next few days and have a look-see.

The Haynes manual seems to indicate that the screws for the panel are all accessible with the door shut.

Spent a couple hours with the door. There were two issues. The lock mechanism slot came off its post, and the linkage behind that operates the front latch popped out of its hole.

It's working now.

I hope it all holds together.
