View Full Version : Was my Previa JDM engine not a JDM?!

Hey everyone, I am starting to get suspicious and worried that my JDM engine is not actually a JDM. I have noticed differences from other JDM images on Ebay. My engine's differences:
The fuel injector connectors were purple. JDM engines are brown.
Exhaust manifold was no different from my US market replacement engine.
Intake manifold was also the same, except for somethings being broken.
Only differences were some connectors didn't match up with my old wiring harness, like the knock sensor, coolant temp sensors. The oil filter was also a Nippon Japanese oil filter. Those were the only differences. Was I ripped off? The pictures below compare.

There's no differences between the intake and exhaust manifolds between the countries... fuel injectors should also be the same
the stuff that looks different is probably from a later year (after 94) or a 2TZ-FZE

The JDM engine I bought definitely had different intake and exhaust manifolds. And it was a N/A version (no crank position sensor). It also has a shallower sump and a different oil pickup. But had the engine I bought had identical manifolds to the one I was replacing I wouldn't have suspected anything amiss. I concluded at the time that it was from a country where there were less stringent emissions requirements. And the sump? Maybe higher ground clearance requirements?

depends on year and if it came from an Emina/Lucida too
Toyota changed the oil pan design in 1994 too (the one where the dipstick is)

When I received the engine, it had the hoses and wires cut just like every other JDM engine I have seen. I guess I find the odds of it not being a JDM engine unlikely. I mean, the vast majority of the electrical connectors did not connect with my US Previa wiring harness. So I guess there's something else going on here that I will never understand, but I believe now that it is JDM engine. I'll be turning it on this weekend! I am almost done with the swap!

when i received delivery of my 95 jdm i had the same questions but its running good. Just keep an eye on the temp and if you can the oil pressure, and fire it up.
