On my '94 Previa (ABS and disc brakes all around), on the front brakes I have the pad support plates installed differently on passenger side from the driver side. One side has the outer pad support plate clip tucked in between the caliper carrier and the pad keeping tension on the pad, the other side has this clip coming outside of where the pad runs on the caliper carrier and instead ends up springing out halfway down the pad. Does anyone have a picture of the proper placement of these pad support plates? The FSM doesn't seem to say and I'm not 100% which way is the correct way. I attached a photo below of the way I believe these pad support plates should be installed.

Thanks!

Okay, I decided to tuck that brake support plate back in between caliber carrier and the brake pad. Was this question too dumb or was nobody willing to glance at their own brakes?

The question isn’t dumb, some may not have a Previa, some may not know the answer, some may not work on our own vans... and some members may not login on a daily basis... ya know...

Don’t be disappointed.

The placement of these support plates confuse me every time I do a brake job, and speaking of dumb, this is probably the reason THIS happened to me when I didn't install them correctly - my pad drifted to the outside of the rotor and developed a "lip."

Here's the proper placement:
