Im wanting to replace the battery in my Townace soon. It still has the one in it that came from Japan, But want something where I dont have to change the terminals. Maybe a more modern style like Lithium?

Hmmm not sure if this is Diesel specific, is the battery terminal setup in your JDM van? My TownAce isn’t diesel and the battery terminals are the same as USDM vans, I had the terminals and wires replaced when I first purchased the van and just recently replace the Interstate Group 24 battery with a Duracell Platinum AGM Battery. Here’s a few photos in posting number 3 of this thread-

The P.O. swapped in an Optima battery to the original terminals/cables.
Shouldn't be any issue's

Van has had a dead start a few times.
All the numbers stamped on the top are too long to make sense for a MFG date.

Took it up to the local automotive store to check the battery, hoping it's that and not the alternator....

Told me it had a dead cell in it
So back to the forum to find out what to replace a jap battery with...

10766

Checked a few threads thought I would add what I found for the next guy.

# stamped on top is 80D23R

the first two digits are the value corresponding to electrical power. The larger the number, the higher the capacitance and cold scroll current. In this case, the battery capacity ranges from 65-68 Ah, and the starting current is from 490 to 550 amperes; the letter D indicates a width of 175 mm and a height of 200 mm on the battery;
the number 23 indicates the length of the body in centimeters (in this case, 23 cm);
9.1"lg x 6.8"wide x 8.8"tall. "ish

the letter L at the end of the marking indicates that this power supply has a negative terminal on the left (reverse polarity). For products 80D23R, the minus is on the right (straight polarity)

"In addition, the following data should be indicated on battery housings made to the Japanese standard:
name or emblem of the manufacturer;
a 4-digit code in which the first two indicate the month, and the last - the year of issue"

All the numbers stamped on the top were longer then 4 digits and had letters. :cnfsd:

I wanted to find out the group number based off the jap battery but of course they have a different sizing method so going for something that will just fit, based off the info provided group 25 will do the trick.
edit, seeing Wall-Mart has group 35 cheap and in stock.... that's the route I'm going.
edit x2; group 35N
3-year warranty
9.6"lg x 6.9"wide x 9.11" tall

Thanks all :wave2:
