Howdy! So I have a 1989 Townace 2C Diesel rear wheel drive with a blown head gasket. Unfortunately I can’t find anyone to work on this car and my own experience is juvenile at best. Anyone have any suggestions of where I can go in the Bay Area (east bay preferably)? I’m located in Berkeley currently. I absolutely love this car but am at the point where I’m ready to just leave her to get scrapped. I dont want to by any means. But if I can’t find anyone to work on her and for a fair price I’m kinda sol. the car has only 40k miles on it so it’s really a great find. I just wish I had the money to put into her. Sad day.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated! Even if it’s just to tell me the blunt truth that she’s probably destined for the garbage heap 😢

it was fun while it lasted.

Maybe call some JDM Engine Importers in the area and ask who they can recommend for the job. They sell to a lot of shops. I know there also a couple of places that work on them in the PNW.

I just got done DIYing the headgasket on mine for less than 500 so it can be done. But theres also the risk that the head has cracked and needs a full replacement. At that point its a extra 600 to 2k in parts.

Find a small shop that specializes in Toyota and diesels.
Basic after that. Shops are easily intimidated by JDM

Did you buy it from a JDM dealer, maybe they have the facility and techs to repair your vehicle?
