My shifter had the typical wobble, so I opened it up and found the actuator ball cracked and fallen off.
I measured it, and used marine epoxy to reinstall the ball to the shifter. Sanded down to a diameter of 16.05mm, cleaned everything, and reassembled and greased.
Now it is functioning well, I will report back here about long term durability.
