odd idle and timing questions

Ok, so I replaced the tps and ecu coolant temp sensor. Check engine light off now yay!
Now I haven't checked for hidden codes. I have not checked/reset timing. I have monkeyed with idle screw ( what's the factory position anyways).

Van starts but I have to give it gas for a Minit or five until it will idle on its own. Idle in park is about 750. Set with adjusting screw so van doesn't stall out in gear. Acts like vacuum leak but no leak! "fixed" intake hose with Honda fipg and silicone.

Is there something that controls idle until engine warms up? Does polarity matter to cold start injector?

You should also take a look at the air valve hose that hooks up to that metal tee at the bottom of the throttle body intake tube. It's the bigger hose that hooks up on the back-side and goes to the air valve. The other end hooks to a metal pipe that pops up between the intake manifold halves (very back). Make sure it's secured on both ends.

Personally I think repairing the throttle body hose is a waste of time. Find a good one at a salvage yard or order a new one. There's only so much you can do with silicone. There is flexing here when the engine torques & there's no substitute for a soft & flexible rubber intake hose. Tim

yeah, im gonna see if my parts guy can order it. 1sttoyota parts ssl certificate is expired so im not ordering there until thats resolved. if i cant get an air tube for less than $75 Im going to make a new intake. but the upto 1991 camrys have a very similar air hose i may try one of those from the junkyard.

I have set the timing, she is almost purring now. idle is where it is supposed to be, now just letting it cool off so I can check the stuff from the other thread you posted a link to. not sure how i missed that one in my search, but it meets my previous symptoms perfectly.

on a side note when I shorted the check connector to set the timing, my CEL started blinking its codes. just 4,11, which I have replaced and the light is off when driving normally. is this just a stored code?

Once codes are stored they will stay there until you clear them. After making repairs you should always clear codes as to avoid future confusion. Codes are cleared by removing the ECU fuse or disconnecting the battery for 15 seconds. I always check to make sure they are gone after clearing, then check again after 50 miles or so to see if anything came back. Tim
