Backup lights not working.

I think I may have disturbed something when I had the engine cover off although I have removed it for years and never had this problem.

My 84 van LE has the 5-speed manual shift console.

I have searched my entire service manual and electrical manual and I cannot locate the exact location of the backup light switch. I saw in the manual that the backup light switch 'connector' is located on the manual transmission near the speedometer, but the location of the backup light switch itself isn't shown anywhere.

Anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: The Start injector time switch connector finally crumbled and broke. It's the type with the retaining clip. Two prong. Is there a supplier for that connector?

the switch is connected to the connector in/on the transmission. its mechanically switched inside he trans.

It also appears to be available as an aftermarket part as well. I'll check the connector on the tranny first and then look for wires I may have broken (it is near the torsion bar I replaced)
as well as corroded connectors at the rear.

Any ideas about the Start injector time switch connector that broke?

OK, I cannot believe this. The left backup bulb was burned out and the right backup light socket was corroded.

Backup lights are working.

Found the Start Injector Time Switch Connector. It is actually pretty common.

Alternate part numbers: Under Coolant Temperature Sensors at Rock Auto and other sources: Standard Motor Products HP 3860 or S697 (OEM type without quick release).

I put some silicone sealer into the back of the connector to make it more waterproof.

Exact same issue.Some contact cleaner, a wire brush and compressed airto blast away the crud.
The backup light holder was different from the other two in that it was open in the back. I think
that might let more water vapor in to condense and cause corrosion. Both bulbs were also blown.
Not sure if that was related to the corrosion. Will just keep an eye on it.
