Also, is there a recommendation on which brands to avoid? I've learned the hard way that some parts are not built like the others...
Looks like the PVC valve is the same for both 3Y and 4Y part number 12204-71010 replaced by 12204-15030, double check for accuracy. this is a common part used in numerous vehicles from 84'-93' such as Celica, Corolla, Tercel and Vans

What the heck is this and will fixing it sort out the stumble in my idle..vacuum-leak
Hello
I found a doohickey hanging off the top of the motor towards the Mack of views from the drivers side hatch. It has 3 vacuum lines attached a broken plastic screw and a spring fell out the bottom.
any ideas? I’ll try to attack a pic or two.

Maybe more of a question of WHY-IS-THIS and WHAT-TO-LOOK-FOR-WHILE-I-CAN:
Sometime in the vans history, the back firewall was chopped into to gain access to the back of the engine. After removing the back heater vent, discovered a poor attempt at a fiberglass repair and finally discovered where my exhaust fumes have been seeping in :dizzy:
Before I weld it back, wondering if there's a good reason to keep a removable panel here instead of patching it up completely? I assume it must of made some PIA job easier in the past. Does this give access to "the hose of death" I've heard about or some transmission bolt that's otherwise impossible to reach?

Wondering which parts (part#s) I may want to inspect or stock up on/replace while I still have easy access?
Re: The WHAT-IS-THIS-PART and WHAT'S-THE-PART-NUMBER Thread for US Toyota Vans 1984-1
Wow, that's a nasty looking hack job. There is a benefit to having some access here, but it's hard to imagine a cut like that helping much. If it were mine I'd weld/patch that, then maybe put a more reasonable access hole there if/when needed.
Here's an example of a more reasonable way to get access to the "hose of death"

Where is the hazard light relay located?
Attached is photo of fuse panel but none of the relays seem to be labeled hazard.
I'm on a road trip, got pulled over for no tail/break lights(solved) but learned in the process that hazards don't work. Fuse is fine, next guess is relay but forgot my manual at home.

Ballast is as good a term as any; I forget the Toyota term. I removed mine.
Gwen
EDIT: Toyota calls it the Rear Floor Balancer.

It's kind of hard to identify by that picture, but I believe that's a solenoid switch similar to this one: http://www.texasindustrialelectric.c...s_24812_01.asp. I'm guessing at some point a P.O. had a 2nd battery mounted somewhere and he was using that solenoid for a battery isolator. He probably took the battery out and disconnected the wires, but left the solenoid behind. Tim

Curious if anyone knows the number for the shroud around the door lock on the interior (see picture) as my van seems to have that missing. Passenger's side preferred but if they're interchangeable that'd work too hopefully.
Re: The WHAT-IS-THIS-PART and WHAT'S-THE-PART-NUMBER Thread for US Toyota Vans 1984-1
There's just one part for both sides; they are interchangeable. Toyota part # 69751-20031; officially called FRONT DOOR LOCKING BUTTON COLLAR HOLDER

In addition, do you also know the part numbers for door locks for the sliding door exterior and the rear door? The sliding door is busted (everytime I shut the sliding door, the whole assembly pops out like its craving freedom!) and the rear door lock just doesn't turn; bent a copied key trying to open it! Gonna be stocking up on parts to order now that I'm doing some quality-of-life fixes to it... Once again thanks guys!

Go to this site: https://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q.html (it can be helpful in finding/cross-referencing part numbers). I'll also email you information on how to get access to Toyota's break-downs.
