Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels
I picked a set of rims last month but after reviewing this and other threads I do not know what I have. They are not 9 hole Cressida but look similar. They have 8 holes, depressed area for the lugs and a center cap mounted with four screws. Interior markings on the rim are 5 1/2 JJx14 27 20 over a Y, NO or ON, 54/2, A. Exterior rim on one 'spoke' is engraved a logo like JLL or MC depending which way you look at it. Center Caps are marked with a Toyota logo.
I have searched and I cannot find a reference to these wheels. Anybody know?? I am going to test fit this weekend.

I will try to upload. The more I look at the center cap and the stylized 'T' I am starting to believe these are aftermarket made to look like the Cressida 9 hole wheels.Attachment 6657Attachment 6658

Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels
Those look more like stock 80’-81’ stock Supra rims, there’s some that look exactly like that in a 13” rim if I’m correct. Those really look to be in great shape:thmbup:

Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels
With a better date range and specifically searching toyota supra these rims are coming back ID'd as Toyota OEM 14" for Supra! I still do not think they are in the best shape but a trip to a traveling repair business (Alloy Wheel Repair aka AWR) only gets me the info they will sand and blast and then repaint 'Bright Silver' complete for about $70.00 + or try to two tone for a bit more. I would rather see the aluminum clear finish so they are probably just going to go on the panel van as is.
:thmbup:Thanks JDM

Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels
In 13x5 they show as 79-81 corolla, I cannot find them anywhere in 14 but i remember running them on my first van in late 80's

Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels
Those rims are the optional Cargo alloys for 86-89, and they are shown in the Toyota dealer lit for 87 & 88.
They are my very favorite 2WD Van rims.

Carbonized,
That's my van or your van but with the wheels!! Convinced me that I will do some minor clean up on the curb rash and mount these wheels to the new tires I am putting on my cargo panel van. I will not 'repaint them'. I do have the tow hitch but not the Cat you are pulling. Nice Pic!

Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels
Yes they where very good wheels, One thing about them is that they are very "open", let a lot of air through so they are kind to the brakes. I did thousands of miles with the rig as you see it in the picture, including up to the Grand Canyon once on the return from California. Granted the van was a manual and the boat and (brakeless)trailer weighted no more than 2000lbs we never experienced any sign of brake fade or got anything smelling hot.
I have a wheel repair shop here that can do magic on rims, curb rash is nothing for them to make disappear. I'm sure there is a shop like that in your neck of the woods.
I'm sure you will like your wheels, and as with anything that rare, I would keep my eyes open for a spare or two :wnk:.
Cheers

That picture was shot with a panoramic throw away kodak camera , remember those? The scan made it just grainy enough to look vintage, Huu... but wait... it is!
I threw a lot of chalenges at that van, never a complaint , never let me down. Here is another one that would not be so good for a Toyota commercial before some Photoshop::roflmao:Attachment 6669
Loads just got bigger and heavier . Almost put it in the drink twice with this one! Rear wheel drive vehicles are not the best on a wet slippery boat ramp  I took good care of it but didn't baby-ed it. The little engine that could....

14x5.5= 1977 to 1981 Celica-supra, Baby supra? Looks like right at the transition between the Celica and full blown Supra.

13” Celica
14” Supra.... Baby Supra
I got my set out and took them in for refinishing.... curb rash, polish, and cleanup but not over the top like the Supra rims, I’ll post pictures when I get them back.

2 rims done, I had the edges rolled to remove the curb rash and minor cleanup, I didn’t have them totally finished cause they came out pretty nice. I still have the other 2 that need cleaning up.
ENJOY!!

Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels
So here is the final pic of my '89 Van after I got new Hankook tires mounted on the eight hole special order van wheels as noted by llamavan earlier in this thread. I decided not to let a 'wheel refinisher' update them as they wanted to finish the entire wheel in one 'Bright Silver' color. So mounted as found in three tone. I sold the van a few days ago to my son who will be driving it to home base in TX. About 11 years, 79K miles and many memories. Could not ask for a better van. Now time to sell the 89 Window van (and maybe my son's house mate is interested!!). Here is the pic with the wheels we all discussed and Gwen identified as one of her favorites in the 2WD. The van just rolled over 266k and is still going strong.

Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels
It turns out that some 79-81 Celica Supras came with these hubcaps, and they look pretty good on our vans! A lot cheaper than alloys too. https://i.imgur.com/iKg9w9x.jpg

I am offered what I am told are corolla gts wheels, 14x6. four bolt. The pics are poor but i believe they are snowflake.I am told it was on a rear drive car. Hoping for better pics.

Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels (OEM and alternate rims)
I just picked up 5 four spoke 7'' wide baby supra wheels. The part number for allow wheel nuts with a washer for 84 and 85 models is 9094201042.
It is NLA. Is there an alternative source for these nuts with washers?:cnfsd:

Thank you. My Hankook Optimas in 205/70 R 14 are on the way. We will see if they are skinnier or fatter.

I have 205/70/14’s on my TownAce but I think I have more room then that? I need to check it out.

Did you manage the "baby supras" on that van? I thought you had a clearance problem.
-
Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels (OEM and alternate rims)
Sorry for the confusion, the baby supras didn’t fit on the TownAce, I put the Michelin 205/70/14’s on the stock rim..... but I guess I’ve answered the question to my own confusion... stock rim is 5.5” and baby supras are 7.0” and that’s why you only have the 2 milli clearance:doh:

Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels (OEM and alternate rims)
The width is only one part of the problem, the offset is the major culprit. If I can trust my memory , the outer edge of the rim moves outboard by 37 mm from stock to supras ( the difference in offset + 1/2 the difference in Width) . That they fit on my van and not on your TownAce leads me to believe something is different, maybe in the drive-train but most likely in the body work dimensions.
Kombi should be fine if the side wall bulge of the Hankooks is similar to that of the Kumhos. I found a way of gaining a couple of mm if necessary. It involve plastic washers between track and body work but is such a PITA, I would not doing it again if not absolutely necessary.

Not to go off topic on this thread, Yes the rear differential is actually different on my TownAce then the USDM 2WD Van documented in the thread below-

Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels (OEM and alternate rims)
I had a set of 1981 280ZX 6 spoke alloys on my 87 2WD Cargo. They worked great with the standard sized 195 75R14 tires. Think they were 6" wide with +12 offset and a 70ish mm center bore.
I'll try to find a picture and post it of my old van. They looked really sharp!
They looked like this.

Yummy!!!!
Gorgeous Wheels! Nice deep dish. Crisp, simple lines. Should match the van very well. Pics please:drool:
Wonder if the old stainless steel Toyota center cap would fit?

or the vintage one with the"T" alone. If I remember well the center bore on the 2WD is 67 m/m. I could be wrong.

Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels (OEM and alternate rims)
Does anyone have any input or knowledge on whether tires measuring 185/65/R14 (with a load rating of 86T, fwiw) will work on the "baby Supra" wheels? Specifically if they're too "narrow" to mount properly? Walmart is having a black Friday sale on tires I'm interested in but that's the only size of tires that would qualify for the sale that could possibly fit.

Hankook Optimo (H724) P205/70R-14 on baby supra wheels rubbed when steering hard in reverse, and barely cleared rear sliding door. mine was an 85 van. 2 wd 5 spd

I don't know AD, 185 is only 10 millimeters narrower than stock but the side wall at 65% is 120 millimeters, versus 146 stock, and you have to stretch that to 7" versus 5.5"... They might mount but will it be safe. 185 millimeters is just under a 1/4 inch wider than 7 inch and that measurement is inside the lips of the rims. With the short walls there will be very little bulge, that mean you be rubbing the rims every chance you get. If it was me , I would think twice....:wnk:

Re: Urgent need for advice on space van wheels (OEM and alternate rims)
Carbonized,
Thanks for the reply. Right now I'm driving on 195/70's and I like the look and size of them, I agree I really shouldn't be going smaller on the tire size given the points you brought up. I'll take your advice and wait for a deal on some proper sized tires.
