So trying to figure out wiring on adding fog lights and a switch. While I have wired a lot of the three wire accessory switches, the Toyota switch has four leads coming off it. Anyone know where the different wires go? My FSM (from an 87') seems to show only two wires coming from switch? Switch is from an 89'.
Also assuming I can use a traditional 30 amp electrical relay for this, please correct if I am wrong?

Josh take a look at posting #4 in this thread below, Tim has posted a picture of the light relays from the 87' FSM and an 89' FSM, the 89' shows where the relay I see located but it doesn't have a full layout of how it's wired. Do you have a 89' FSM?

I took a picture a while back of a 30amp fog light switch with some wiring diagram showing how the wires run. This is just for reference cause I don't know anything about wiring and haven't had a chance to locate my OEM factory fog light switch to see if it actually has 5 wires coming out as well.
Not trying to send you off the right track so take this with a grain of salt, could be 2 totally different types of applications.
If you have yours available maybe pull the pigtail off and check it out?

My fog light switch is from an 89' versus an 87'. I don't have access to a 88-89 FSM, but I would be willing to bet in that edition it would show four leads coming off the fog light switch, versus only two shown in my electrical diagram?
So looking at the link you directed me to looks like there was a relay for the 88-89 vans fog light circuit, but no such relay in the 87.
Any chance you can post the electrical schematic for the fog light circuit from the 88-89 FSM?

Sorry I don't have a 89' FSM at this time to post photos of how the wiring runs.
I just went online and found a 88' & 89' FSM and a 89' EWDSM (Electrical Wiring Diagram Service Manual) and ordered all 3 of them, they should be here in about a week.

check out page 12 and it shows the fog light switch and fog light relay.... even though it's from a 87' manual I think this might be what your looking for.
That looks like the same picture I posted at the start of this thread. Manual I have is an 87', but in the diagram it appears( could be reading it wrong) that the switch only has two wires coming from versus 4 wires on the switch I have. Still confused. -Josh

ok, so am I reading the electrical schematic wrong? Shouldn't the schematic show 4 wires coming off the switch? I see 4 off the relay as I would expect, but not switch. Probably a good time to mention I am self taught in automotive electrical, and consider myself ok since nothing I have wired has ever caught fire. :rol:

I' am far from an electrician myself. I consider myself more of a fireworks expert, but could this be just a simple on/off "single throw" switch? Meaning it only cut the hot side (+). I can't see why you would need more unless each bulb had it's own circuit, or some thing like a blinking function or two different intensity etc.
The other two wires should be for the switches illumination circuit. If you look at the back of the switch in the photo you can see the round, white bulb socket. Fog light circuit in, fog light circuit out, light bulb power, and light bulb ground. 4 wires. :thmbup:

If you look in your schematic under "tail lights and illumination" it shows a bulb circuit for the fog light switch.

Ok, so making some progress on this project, wiring harness done, relay mounted, just need to connect the switch wiring wise.
Went to pop the new bulbs in H7 (not sure if I got that from owners manual or internet) anyway bought both a set of halogen and LED bulbs to see which I liked better. Both are too big to drop into the base for the light.
Anyone running fogs who has replaced the bulbs? If so what did you use?
I'm in the middle of cutting the outer metal flange of bulb w/dremel to get them to drop into housing. Didn't want to modify the housings as long as it took to find some.

That was the closest bulb I could find to the original. Look good, but yellow against the LED headlights and under the bumper LEDs. Eventually I'll try and find an LED replacement that will fit so the color temp of lights will be closer.

But as for the bulbs (lamps- proper electrician term) which brand did you use, I was search on line and but the ones I’ve noticed aren’t of any specific name brand, for example-

and they’re cheap of a set. Being that they are 80w LED’s and the housing shows that it accommodates a 12v 35w bulb is that ok? Sorry I don’t know how all that electrical stuff works.

I’m just adding to your write up another option that can be used with slight modifications-
I went with these Noyka H3C Halogen Nok7659 bulbs because they seemed to be the closest to OEM with very slight modifications.

Housing does need slight modification, crimp the piece that’s boxed in red so the bulb can drop all the into housing.

This is the OEM bulb clamped down, once the housing is modified the A/M bulb should drop in place and the clamp will hold the bulb in place even though it has a fatter base.

I just replaced my fog light bulbs and the H3C should drop right in. Do a search on eBay and you will get a handful of options.
Which brand did you use? We like aftermarket first time fit and no modifications!!:thmbup:

They were 9 bucks, fit right up and haven’t had any issues with em.
Good deal on price, I paid double. They look like the same as what I got but mine aren’t seating in the housing completely without pinching the spot that’s highlighted in photo up above.

So I removed the entire headlight assembly that holds the lights to try and remove trim ring screws with no luck. But I did find that my LE that didn’t originally come with fog lights has a pre-wired pigtail for fog-lights!!

Seems appropriate being the only thread, that I could find, about the fog lights on our Vans. So I have a functional pair (tested the bulb with a jumper wire, my van doesn't have the connections for foglights unfortunately) and I have a 5-pin switch from the rear defroster off of an LE van and an unknown condition relay from another van. I am assuming the job would be to simply get a suitable connector for the lights, if anyone knows of one other than a harness do let me know, tap into the fuse box and fuse it, wire it to a relay (supposedly theres already a relay meant for foglights in the vans but it is missing on those without foglights) and then the switch if I'm not wrong. Can't seem to pull a part number for the foglamp relay but maybe there is a compatible relay available? If not I have some square relays I might be able to rig up... I did test fit a foglamp to my van and it seems to line up good! IF anyone has any inputs, do tell as I would like to learn more, I will try to find an electrical diagram online somewhere for some additional help with this too. :thmbup:
Alright, after some digging online I found an appropriate diagram for the defogger switch. Interestingly, it doesn't show pins #1 and #2 but it does show it does have a light inside of it as I assumed. Now whether or not it's good I'll have to see. For anyone curious, here's the diagram for the switch operation:

I too have an M3 Light Control Relay (Part #: 90987-01003) I nabbed too, although I've never tested a 3-pin relay before so I'll figure out if it's any good in the first place...
According to the part #, it's a multi-use relay for the fog lights, A/C, headlights, tail lights, etc. which is good to know. One of the reasons I was severely confused looking this part up was the plug's butt connector was still stuck onto the relay pins so I was quite confused as to why my relay had only female connectors. As for testing the relay, should be straight forward now, hopefully. Looking at the butt connector, the plastic seems somewhat melted on pin #2 which is odd, might not be any good anymore then :no: and my digging online shows some OEM ones for about ~$13/piece or some sketchy looking new ones online for a third of the price not to mention a straight month long processing!!! Anywho, I'll test it and report back today on what I find.Quote:

I'll try and use some larger gauges of wiring in advance but I'll probably need more since most of it I took from random sections of the harnesses in a 2006 Sienna. I'll attach some pictures after this post for more information surrounding the fog lights as I've found via my FSM.
