    Re: Exhaust leaking into car

PrecisionDriven, I did take the panel off the back door when I was repairing the wiring and it doesn't seem to want to mount on the door again. Is that the part that went bad on your van? Or is there...

    Re: Exhaust leaking into car

The only post I've been able to find that seems related is this one:
    https://www.toyotavantech.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-1260.html

Is this what you mean by hood seal?...

    Exhaust leaking into van

I had someone else riding with me and they said they smell exhaust in the cab. I think it might actually be happening. How can I track it down and figure out how this is happening?

    Re: Idler Arm and Gearbox

Anyone tried to replace the ball joint on the center arm / bell crank themselves?
What actually gets worn out? Is there a plastic part that breaks? Or do the walls of the center arm get worn out?...

Re: Seafoam time.... but what hose to pour it in?

I haven't been able to find a thread specifically about viscosity, got a link?
I'll probably seafoam it one more time and change the oil but I've heard some people say they always put 20w50 in old...

Re: Seafoam time.... but what hose to pour it in?

    That totally worked!
Seafoam in crank case and gas + oil change with 20W-50 oil + Lucas oil thickener.
I'll probably thin out the viscous oil now that I passed though.
Now I'll have more time to...

Re: Seafoam time.... but what hose to pour it in?

I'm getting ready to do the same thing, but I picked up both the normal seafoam and the spray can.
No one in here really brought up the spray can. So here is what I'm wondering.
    Most of the time,...

    Re: Valve Lash

Burntboot, thank you for clearing that up!

I keep hearing mixed feelings out there about using solvents in the crankcase and the intake. I've heard using solvents in the crankcase can sometimes...

    Valve Lash

Does the 1984 Toyota Van with the 3Y-E motor have valve lash?
I don't see anything in the engine mechanical part of the manual about changing the valve lash on the rocker arm assembly.
    I may go...

Re: How to pass CA smog????

Just make sure you have access to welding equipment!
I got quoted $450 for replacing a CAT so it makes sense there would be one cheaper than what is on Rock Auto.

    Cleaning Mass Air Flow Sensor

I got this taken apart, but I've never done this, and the manual doesn't get into details on how to clean this.
I see what looks like hot glue on there. Was there originally supposed to be a gasket...

Re: How to pass CA smog????

Getting into trouble with CA smog here on my 1984 Toyota Van.
It didn't pass. It barely failed on NO, and it was smoking. It also has smelled weird for a while.
It appears to be burning oil. The...

Re: Stalling on low oil pressure

    Good news!
I found this weird connector between the hoses unplugged.
After I plugged it in was when the stalling got really bad.
My friend looked at it and we adjusted the idle and now it has...

Re: Stalling on low oil pressure

Is there a thread about where I need to spray to look for vacuum leaks?
Or a place in the manual that lays out where all the vacuum lines are that I might need to check?
    I've heard I should use...

Re: Stalling on low oil pressure

Huh ok, what do you think could be causing it?
My next best theory is something on the EM-2 manual page in the ROUGH IDLING section.
I have been working on doing a number of things like:

Mysterious Stalling (not low oil pressure?)

I have a 1984 Toyota Van and I've been trying to track down a number of problems.
One of the more dangerous is that sometimes I have to step on the gas to keep the engine from stalling.
    The problem...

    I made a replacement hook

You know that plastic hook you use to hold up the seat so you can work on the motor?
    Mine broke.
I made a replacement in aluminum.

I'm new to working on cars but I've been slowly working on changing all the basic stuff on my 1984 Toyota Van.
Last time we noticed that there seems to be a valve missing on the engine, as shown in...
