Actually, R-12 isn't expensive anymore, as there isn't much demand.
You can also use Red Tek in place of R-12.

I hope you didn't hit that bike in front of you!!
The top notch (closest to the handle) is the hot full mark; the one directly below it is the low hot mark.
The cold range isn't very useful.
Drive around for twenty-thirty minutes or so around...
It could well be the compressor, but it could also possibly be the SADS shaft bushings.
If the coolant hoses are hooked up and the battery is fully charged, it should be able to run for a bit.
Well, that was over 15 years ago so the details are a little fuzzy lol. I just know it's down there somewhere, and the amp plugs into the "normal" or standard Toyota radio plug. You'll notice the...
The amp is down behind the interior panel by the passenger's feet.
You can replace your current stereo with a standard one; the normal Toyota plug is down there.
Good news is, you should never have to do this again:)
Well, I have done a lot of mechanical work on cars over my 47 years. And I have pulled and installed motors before. But not on the previa, of course.
But I have not rebuilt an engine before.
...
Good advice.
The problem for me is I don't have the tools required to remove and reinstall the pistons nor a cylinder hone.
I will check and replace, if necessary, the crank bearings.
Bearing caps lol. Autocorrect.
Do you have access to a borescope to see what the inside of the cylinders look like? Also remove the brainy caps to make sure they aren't rusty.
if they are all fine, I'd clean up whatever rust...
I think long term I'll need to replace the motor in our Previa.
I found a couple two or so hours away on car-part.com for around $300.
if I go the used motor route, what work would you do to...
It sounds from here that all you'd need to replace is the crank seal, which is in the oil pump housing cover.
Unless ss it's the oil pump cover that's leaking.
Why why is he suggesting oil...
Are you sure the cable is connected?
They look like you would just flip one around for the other side.
When you remove the old tranny, you can compare the two and know for sure.
Actually, these Hellas seem better--and I would prefer the look of them as well (though I have a Previa, not a TV currently).

What about these?? https://www.amazon.com/Glass-Housing-Light-Diamond-Conversion/dp/B00IZMYNFS/ref=pd_lpo_263_tr_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=DVMDQZN09XTEWKCEW6TR
$42, glass lenses.
Ouch that price is high.
Personally, I'd go with something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007JNXAL2?_encoding=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0&showDetailTechData=1#technical-data

Spent a couple hours with the door. There were two issues. The lock mechanism slot came off its post, and the linkage behind that operates the front latch popped out of its hole.
It's working...
With ABS the brake portioning valve is not needed. Its function is to put more or less braking power to the rear to prevent lockup of the rear wheels.
ABS will not let any wheel lock, so it...
Does it have ABS? If so, there's no need for a brake portioning valve.
I'll pop the interior door panel off when I get a chance in the next few days and have a look-see.
The Haynes manual seems to indicate that the screws for the panel are all accessible with the...
An update--It sounds like the power lock is actuating--good click on lock and unlock. It you turn it to unlock twice in a row, you don't hear the good click.
The lock slider on the interior is in...
I've had a few episodes of the sliding door lock seeming to set itself and needing a good hard pull on the inside lock slider to unlock it. On locking the driver's door occasionally you'd hear a...
While I've not done this myself, I'd run the power lead from the big terminal on the starter, with a fuse right after, then along under the body.
Look for an existing hole to run the line up...
Removing the A/C belt may have been the way to go.
your description of clanking under the hood made me think it was something to do with the accessories there, or the shaft that drives them (the...
Have you checked the SADS shaft?
One would need more information to help you. Is there oil on the dipstick? Was the 60 mile drive unremarkable? Any warning lights come on?
Help us help you.
I found that removing the auto trans dipstick tube gave me plenty of room. I didn't need any extensions or shenanigans for the top bolt. Just a regular 3/8" drive ratchet and socket.
I was about 19-20 (mid-late 1980s) and my MGB was running rough. So I popped the hood and pressed on the spark plug wires to make sure they were on solidly. When I did so, it felt like my arm was in...
There are coolant temp sensors near the valve cover. They are in the coolant neck (Toyota calls t "water outlet") that comes off the top of the head over cylinder #1 then bends down, leading to the...
There's a relay in the negative side of the circuit. Check that.
Yes back on the road. I need to replace the O2 sensors, but the exhaust is now fine.
Well, I wasn't the one who bolted the cat/flex pipe section to the header in Japan sometime in 1991, so I'm not sure how I was supposed to use anti seize on assembly.
And the studs weren't rusty....
I couldn't make any real headway in the driveway, so I contacted a guy I know who's a tech at a shop. He offered to do it for $50 after hours. It should be a quick job with a lift, a torch, and air...
The bolt heads on the back side of the rear flange were too corroded. So I followed a YouTube video from a guy in New Zealand (I think) in grinding off the nuts. I figured I could tack some washers...

The flex pipe in the Previa cracked. It's part of the "mid pipe," which also includes the cat. So I had to buy a replacement part. Price wasnt too...
Sounds like SeaFoam smoke-show time👍
Plain water would be fine to limp home.
Just do a complete flush and fill after you get it all sorted with the proper coolant.
General experience would make me look at the ignition switch. Also the cluster grounds.
Running boards would be sweet.
I too would use the cool box as an ice box as Tim said. It's insulated a bit and would drain melted ice under the van while keeping your Starbucks DoubleShots nice...
Have you moved the tires front to back to observe any changes? Or better yet, do you have a set of mounted snow tires you could swap on to compare?
On a B5 Passat (1998) I had a CEL for implausible signal for vehicle speed.
Speedometer worked fine.
VSS in the tranny was replaced. Still same fault code.
Signal went from VSS to...
Code 42 indicates an issue with the VSS, it's wiring, or the ECU. You eliminated the VSS and ECU as issues already by replacing them. Have you checked the wiring of the speed signal to the ECU?
I'd like to see pattern and throw/distance shots of these lights compared to the halogens you already have installed.
Apparent brightness isn't a good indication of headlight performance. You...
I like the 2WD sticker. They make them for 2WD Vanagons as well.
I just noticed that the profile of the 4WD sticker matches the profile of the VanWagon.
Thanks.
