Does your engine get up to temp? It has to warm up a little for the OD to kick in. If your thermostat is stuck wide open it might only get hot enough at certain times, which would explain it...
FWIW, my rpms drop, somewhere close to the amount you mentioned, when I put my van in gear.
I think that negative battery cable is just the ground right? You do want to make sure that it is good, but according to your readings it seems like it would be charging. Have you had the battery...
FWIW, I remember reading on a van forum, don't even remember which one, where someone was having similar issues and they found that one of the connections to the ecu was corroded and once they...
Solved. So I did something really stupid. I didn't disconnect the battery when I installed my first alternator, and in the process I shorted it out. So it finally tested bad, and they gave me...
Yes, I forgot to mention that my last attempt was with a different battery, from my car, which worked fine in my car both before and after the attempt on the van. So it sounds like a new alternator...
So this one is kicking my butt. (I guess most problems with these vans do:?:). Started off with the Christmas lights. Drove van for about 20 min after Christmas lights and it dies. Ok, replaced...
I bought a 14inch fan and tried to integrate it into the original fan shroud in place of the clutch fan. That didn't work. I think if you put it on the front, bumper side, as a pusher, that would...
Tim,
I should ask. Is your dual 10 fan where you built the shroud on a 2wd or 4wd? And do you still have the A/C stuff on the van? Maybe there is still hope for me to go electric. :wnk:
My 2 cents is that an electric fan is not powerful enough to pull enough air through on the 4wd. I switched to an electric fan back when I had a 2wd and it worked well, but we had removed the A/C...
That makes sense. Thanks.
Help me understand in case I find myself in a similar situation. So no apparent leaks, and your oil is ok. So if it's a head gasket, doesn't that mean that the only other option is out the exhaust?...
I have an ice maker I'm not going to use because I've given up on my A/C. So if you need something maybe tell me how to get it out and I can send it to you.
Oh, and I forgot to add, make sure your radiator is ok. I could drive my van at low speeds, say below 45mph, and it was fine, but as soon as I went faster it got really hot. I had the radiator...
I doubt this would be the problem, but you should always start with the easy stuff first. Make sure you have a new rad cap. If your cap isn't holding in pressure, that will work against you.
Yeah Tim, That really makes sense. I'll see what I can do. Thanks!
Ok, so maybe I just don't need to drive over 70, but I tend to expect all my vehicles to be able to travel at highway speeds, which for me means 79-80. At 65-70, she's just below the halfway mark. ...
It took me an hour to figure out that I needed to loosen that center bolt the first time I tried to take my belts off. Glad I wasn't the only one to struggle with it. For me, as soon as I...
Sorry, I just realized my advice about making sure your clip is connected is exactly what Tim already said to do. It's definitely your first step though.
No OD light either way does not sound good at all. Out of curiosity, have you tried hitting the switch while driving fast enough that is should shift to make sure that you don't have it the wrong...
While odds are that Tim is right and its not your thermostat, I would still start there if I were you. Its really a lot easier than it looks. Just make sure you have a long extension for your...
I had a 90 4-runner that was doing the same thing. It seemed to get up to temp according to the gage, and my heat was definitely blowing warm. I changed the thermostat and it shifted into...
Tim, earlier in the post you mentioned that dexron VI is incompatible. Why is that and what do you use? Thanks.
Got to drive in the 4-5 inches of snow this weekend! (That's a lot for us) 4 - wheel drive and everything worked great. That's about all I've had a chance to drive it since I got it home. ...
I'm lucky mine was something so simple. Only time will tell if I'm ok. You obviously know a lot more about transmissions then I do. Good luck!
My dad actually wiped out the bottom of the pan, but he said that it really wasn't that bad. Not a ton of stuff attached to the magnets either. But the filter itself did have a lot of debris. I...
My van was exhibiting some of the same symptoms, some different, but it eventually started slipping in all gears. I just changed the fluid and filter and drove it 50 miles home with no issues. If...
Update: Changed the fluid and filter and drove it 40-50 miles home with no problem. :dance2: Stayed off the interstate and drove it easy, but so far everything seems fine. The filter was...
Tim, thanks so much for the quick response. The tranny will engage after the engine has been turned off, and sometimes it will even shift up to third gear, but at some point very quickly it will...
I just got my van running, got maybe 2 months of weekend use out of it at the most, and now the tranny died! So the question is, what to do now? I've never been a fan of automatics, but made...
