Re: Cruise control not working. Steps to diagnose?

The switch on the dash is just the cruise master On / Off. After you turn on the master, turn the cruise knob on the end of the wiper stalk down (it says Acc, maybe the printing on your knob is worn...

    Re: Weird starting/clutch problem

Sychronizers in the transmission are the parts that let you make a nice smooth shift between gears without having to match the input RPM to the output RPM. Internal to the transmission, not related...

    Re: Weird starting/clutch problem

Hey there- quick edit to my earlier post: "If it starts and idles in neutral" should read "If it starts and idles in gear [with the clutch pedal depressed]". Sorry about that.

    Re: Weird starting/clutch problem

That's actually a decent amount of travel.

Try this: set the parking brake or if it doesn't work well, hold the brake firmly with your right foot, put it in first with engine off, push the clutch...

    Re: Weird starting/clutch problem

Can you get it in any gear with the engine off?
  8. Re: Only for 1986. Climate Control. Never saw this option

brentlehr- you have an Auto mode on your fan speed selector?

I have an '86 and this is in my owner's manual, as well, don't think I've ever actually seen it in the wild.

    Re: Rough Starts

Randy, what happens if you just hold the throttle at about 1/4 and crank it? Your friend is right that pumping in between starting attempts shouldn't do anything except maybe it's affecting a failed...

Sticky: Re: Ordering parts from eBay and Amazon

I recently re-bushed the control arms on the front of my van and just decided to order these from Amazon:

  11. Re: Fan / fluid coupling (fan clutch)

I have to say- everyone has their opinions about things like non-OEM thermostats, non-OEM gaskets, etc., but the fan clutch is one thing where I think it's easy to see the difference in quality. When...

Re: Upper control arm, pass. side

An hour and a couple Coronas and a plate of nachos later, it's done. Of course, taking a step back and getting some nutrients (and liquid confidence) made things click.

I finally found in my stash...

    Upper control arm, pass. side

So here's a little question, and I think I know the answer, but I thought I'd post if for no other reason than to commiserate with folks that have been in a similar boat. I set out a few days ago to...
  14. Re: Need HELP identifying this broken section of drivetrain

Well the broken part looks to be the four bolts holding the driveshaft universal joint flange to the differential flange. I'd wager that you had some work done recently, eh? Either the bolts weren't...

    Re: 86 bogging down

Aside from what Tim said, two things jump to mind for me: timing and exhaust restriction. I'd put a timing light on it to ensure that the base timing is correct and that it's advancing with throttle....

    Re: Starting Issues...Uurrgghhh

When you turn the key all the way to start, do your dash lights and other cabin power (radio, etc) blank out (that is, go off)? If they do, that would be at least one indicator that the ignition...

    Re: parts and parting out

If you find yourself with the top of a motor off, I really need an idle air motor (the big one on the under side of the intake plenum).

Let me know, and good choice of company rig!

    Tire size

I realize this has probably been hashed out before but search results were vague:

  29. Sticky: Re: Blue plug under passenger side dash?
