The 2CT is an interference engine. Not sure if being off a tooth would ruin your engine though. I remember stumbling across this on Ace Answers at some point....

I got both of my radiators re-cored at Mac's down here in Portland. I can't recall what they charged me, but I will try and round up the receipt when I get home..
Sure is fun taking that thing...
Whoa Oli this is epic.
Thanks!
Matt
I don't know much about wiring or electronics so I'm not sure how you can test the fan. I'm sure someone on here would though.
I think the horizontal fans are on a thermostat, so they turn on when...
How is your overheating issue?
Take a look over at Townace answers. Its a good place to start with these things, although you have to be ready to dig a bit....
Just an update. Found one! Coming in fresh from Japan. So dope! Also hoping to replace the front oil seal and waterpump while I'm in there, with a little help from Danny at Vanlife Northwest!
Matt
Thanks Ace.
Seems as though I may have a couple options..fingers crossed!
I'll fill everyone in on what comes about.
Matt
Hi all.
So, unfortunately I have run into a crankshaft pulley issue. It seems as though the pulley that drives the alternator belts is (or was) fixed to the crankshaft pulley hub via some sort of...
I've ran both 10W-30 and 10W-40 synthetic blend.
Yep this is how I still have it. Seems to be working fine.
As far as the adjusters...I have no idea. Good luck and let us know what comes about!
-Matt
Dope! Show us a few photos in use and also some close ups of the details once you have it finished up. I was hoping to figure something out to hold surfboards as well!
Matt
So I went to NAPA and told them I had a 1987 Toyota Van LE, 4WD. The pads fit great.
JDM I'm thinikng the same, and all of the research I have been able to do suggests the same. I'll let everyone know what comes pf it.
Hi all.
Anyone replaced the front brake pads and/or rotors on a townie yet? I am trying to figure out part numbers, thinking it may be the same as a 4WD US version? If so I am hoping I can easily...
Check out the sticky thread I started as an info dump for parts numbers. I got mine from toyotapartsdeal.com. I have also had success with Amayama.
Toyota p/n 13568-69066
Fit great. It was...
So I've been considering installing a stretchy cargo net to the ceiling of the van, a place to stuff simple stuff while on road trips to keep them out of the way. Books, blankets, pillows,...
Mark that rig up and running again?
Yea! :) I was actually whole heartedly reading the posts, just not who was posting!
Ha. Just realized that. My bad......
Soooooo, ingmire (OP) what was the consensus from the mechanic!!??
Matt
That seems weird….but I am no mechanic.
I am not sure how a leaky fuel injection pump would cause an oil leak. Or did he mean oil pump? If so, I would peruse ace answers….you may not have to...
Just out of curiosity did he give you any speculation as to why/how/where the oil consumption is coming from to warrant a rebuild?
Matt
Bummer. Have you thumbed through ace answers yet?
http://www.townace.plus.com/aanswers.htm
This seems to be a common first recommendation over there:
"check the little breather hose at the top...
Apologies Old Spice, I had intended to reply. There exists one relatively comprehensive manual for the 2 CT engine that I know of. The toyota part number is RMO25E. I have a digital copy I can...
You get that fuel pump off?
Matt
Hi all.
It seems a lot of folks are active with their townies nowadays. I thought it would be cool to have a thread to keep track of the part numbers people have used successfully. Anything from...
Man good luck! Thanks for keeping us all up to date!
Matt
Man. Good Luck. As always let us know how it turns out....hopefully you are onto something with your investigations and you can get her back on the road easy and ASAP!
Matt
Ah. Holding out till she real pretty eh?
Excellent. Thanks for the update!
Post up a photo of this bad rig, eh!!??
Ah. Thanks for the clarification!
Thanks 89ace!
I'll poke around with that thing when I get a minute. For now the van is running great, so I am hesitant to tweak stuff too much
Im curious about this:
"If you're van emits...
Thanks for the update!
I also have a sound that I am beginning to expect may be the exhaust manifold gasket. It is the most apparent as the engine is warming up. It sort of sounds like a hybrid...
Ah man sorry to hear this. I fear the day the same thing happens with mine. Please keep us informed on how it all turns out! It may be really helpful information for the rest of us in the future.
...
Hope it all works out! If you could start a instructional thread documenting the process with photos that would be awesome!!
Matt
Hi djman.
I can send these along to you. Problem is I can't figure out how to attach a PDF to a personal message.
Can anybody help a luddite out?
Matt
Glad to hear the rest of the trip was smooth. Keep us updated!
Matt
Oh yea and for that screech.....
Check to see if your crankshaft pulley is loose. Probably not, but I have heard rumors of this happening. It will take a 19mm socket if I recall.
Matt
Sorry to hear you are running into issues on your trip. Please keep us informed with how all of this goes....maybe start a thread documenting all of your findings?
Hope all goes well!
Matt
Oil Filter:
I use Fram PH6357
Fuel Filter:
I use Fram 4922. I don't recall pulling any fuse...there is a wire with a connector that you have to disconnect going directly to the bottom fuel...
Thanks Gwen!
Also, 89 ace: Unless you have a record of it being done (and when) I would suggest changing your timing belt as soon as you can. Toyota recommends changing it every 60,000 miles and I...
The curtains came with the van. They definitely seem to be an aftermarket addition.
Check out this thread:...
I can't remember off hand, but I would say it was about a week/week and a half?
Matt
Glad to hear more of these things are getting imported into the states and there are more Townace owners active on this forum!!
Here is a shot of 'Maggie', our camping, climbing and surfing rig:

89 Ace-
A quick disclaimer before you read below: I am a novice mechanic who is learning as I go with this van. I suppose take anything I suggest with a grain of salt.
As I mentioned, my entire...
Rad!
The very, very first thing I would do if I were you would be to get an aftermarket temperature gauge (if it does not already have one.) These things are notorious for getting hot and blowing...
Thanks for the heads up 89 ace. I'd be curious to know if someone had adjusted yours in the past. My van is by no means fast (in fact its pretty slow slogging up steep hills/passes) but on the...
And this makes all of Alex's friends happy because he can payback the backlog of over a year of free trips to the coast.....asleep in the back.
So here is a relatively new (or at least becoming more noticable...) issue-
When starting the van cold; it turns over and starts great. The low oil pressure light stays on for 3-5ish seconds. This...
I ran into a guy in PDX who also has a townace! He said he gets work done here:
http://greendropgarage.com/friendly/to-your-car
Not sure how much work he has had done, but it might be a place...
Hi Adam.
Interesting. Sorry my timing questions caused such a big headache for you.
I'm curious if it is a good idea to fill the oil filter when changing the oil. I have only changed the oil...
