  1. Re: Possible thermostat issues.

Thanks. Has anyone had this issue with their van - idle continues to rise as the engine heats up and doesn't ever return to normal - and had it be due to something other than a faulty idle air...
  2. Re: Possible thermostat issues.

    Hey Tim,

Is there some trick to testing (or getting to a hose to pinch)? I pulled an idle air control valve off a junked van and brought it to my mechanic with the FSM, but he insists there isn't...

Re: If I left out the shroud that shrouds the fan....

Awesome, thanks for the info. I'll look into both options.

Re: If I left out the shroud that shrouds the fan....

Has anyone modified a 2wd fan shroud to fit in a 4wd van? My 4x4 is without a shroud, but I located a 2wd one. Hoping to make it work! Thanks!
  5. Re: Won't idle when cold

Great, thanks Tim! I really appreciate the help!
  6. Re: Won't idle when cold

    Thanks Tim,

The only description in the FSM that discusses access to this area is for a cylinder head removal, which includes opening the full engine compartment, draining the oil and coolant,...
  7. Re: Possible thermostat issues.

    Hi Tim,

Is there a thread detailing the least painful way of removing/installing an idle air control valve? Mine is bad and I'm going to try to get one off a parts van this afternoon. Any help...

    Re: new engine

    Jumping in here years later....

We're looking to replace/rebuild the engine in our 87 4x4. Sounds like buying a new is no longer an option.... Is that true?

If buying a new engine isn't...
  9. Re: Possible thermostat issues.

Thanks Tim! I'll search for the air valve later this week. Much appreciated!
  10. Re: Possible thermostat issues.

Not 100% sure this is related to the thermostat, but my 87 4x4 5sp has been idling really high once warmed up (after 5 minutes or so). It hasn't been overheating, and other than the constant sound of...
  11. Re: Warning lights

Yeah Tim, you were right. Fusible link replaced, the van fired right up. Everything else seems in order and we're on our way again. Thanks so much for taking the time to help out!
  12. Re: Warning lights

Thanks Tim, sure enough the fusible link is burning hot (van hasn't run in 24 hours, though the battery was still connected until I went to check the FL). The housing is melted to the FL. I'd post a...
  13. battery light on; no click, no start

Our van broke down today in Vegas. We turned it off when it was seemingly running fine, but when we tried to start it again a bit later, the charge light was the only thing that lit up on the dash,...

    Re: Fuel gauge not working?

Forgive my ignorance.... What does that mean, that the sweep is backwards? Does it need to be modified to fit? Does it read true for the rest of the tank (other than the last 50 miles)? Thanks!

    Re: Fuel gauge not working?

I know it's been a while, but how did the aftermarket fuel sender work out? I'm in need of one now and may have to go this route since the Toyota part is NLA.

Re: 1987 toyota van Fuel Relay

    Hi Tim,

Now that it's years later, I am curious if the US Motor Works USEP8023 fuel pump is still performing well. It's time for me to replace the pump, filter and sending unit on my 87 4x4 and...
