    Re: Gasoline leak

Should I be concerned about a fuel leak? I don't smell any fuel but there is some residue on the exterior of the FPD currently.

Is there any way to test for a fuel leak besides smelling for it?

    Re: Gasoline leak

I acquired a similar aftermarket FPD from Oreilly Auto Parts and noticed the threading was a little off - went in a little bit more rough than I would have hoped but sits snug (I was worried that I...

    Re: Inspecting the Wiring

Yeah I figured availability would be an option. A Facebook group I'm part of always has stuff on hand though for fairly cheap (second-hand stuff from P&Ps). I just want to get this thing as close to...

    Inspecting the Wiring

    Hello all,

I've recently run into issues with a somewhat rough idle (seems like a small burble or maybe an occasional misfire) and upon inspection some of my wires really do look pretty crummy....
  5. Seat/engine cover clips not engaging

    Hello all,

After a recent road trip the two little latches that hold the engine cover/driver seat down are no longer engaging. I have fumbled with them for too much time and can't seem to get them...
  6. Re: What's the seal under the driver's seat that seals off the engine fumes called?

I for sure replaced the gaskets around the pulsation dampener (copper one and the one next to the dampener). It doesn't smell nearly as much as gas (I really don't think i smell any, I'm just having...
  7. Re: What's the seal under the driver's seat that seals off the engine fumes called?

So I got the fuel pulsation dampener and replaced the bolt that was in there. Had some trouble getting the dampener in there but after putting some grease on it successfully got it to go in. Started...
  8. Re: What's the seal under the driver's seat that seals off the engine fumes called?

So I think the cause of my issues may be the fuel pulsation damper. Looking at the other posts, mine doesn't quite look the same.

It honestly appears to be some sort of bolt that's stuck in there...
  9. Re: What's the seal under the driver's seat that seals off the engine fumes called?

I will look for sure my suspicion leads me to think this is unlikely. I drove around 4000 miles after changing the air filter before this problem started.

I suppose there's always the chance the...
  10. Re: What's the seal under the driver's seat that seals off the engine fumes called?

My gas mileage seems to have gone down I would say, but I largely chalked it up to driving in the city.

I didn't get any of the readings but can ask for those tomorrow when the mechanic opens...
  11. Re: What's the seal under the driver's seat that seals off the engine fumes called?

Would an exhaust leak make the van smell like gasoline? I've been having bad gas fumes in my cockpit for a while now. Was driving it on a road trip and it started sputtering real bad. Had to get a...

    Issues starting when warm

Hello all! Hope you are well.

After figuring out that the rough start from cold issue was due to one wire being completely disconnected (see below), I have resolved codes 4 and 11 (have driven...

Re: Weird starting issue - possibly a vacuum leak?

Soooo, it turned out that there was a cable physically unplugged from the sensor on coolant filler neck:

Plugging this back in resolved the issue of hard starting, now it starts on the...

I'm having an identical problem. What is the intake plenum gasket and where is it located?

Re: Weird starting issue - possibly a vacuum leak?

Van has 125,000 miles on it.

I checked the codes and observed the following, would they have anything to do with it?

I read the codes by shorting the check engine connector and got what I think...

Weird starting issue - possibly a vacuum leak?

    Hello all,

So since I bought my van back in November, it's had an issue where when I first start when the engine is cold, it putters out and dies. I'll then have to start it again, anywhere up to...
  18. Re: A Question about the Transmission

I managed to find this part, which is a "reverse restrict" pin. I would imagine this would imply that there is some sort of safety mechanism (the "reverse restrict") then. Am I correct on this? Or...
  19. A Question about the Automatic Transmission

    Hello again all!

So I was recently riding along in my van (1987 2WD, automatic transmission) with my brother. Unwisely, I let him drive the van to the store. On the way back home, we were...

Re: Missing Bolt/Hole with no apparent purpose

Good to know mine's not the only one that's empty!

And that makes sense. Mine's an 87, so I suppose they could have made some changes and not gotten rid of that bore.

Re: Missing Bolt/Hole with no apparent purpose

Looking at the diagrams in the manual, it doesn't seem like there is any apparent reason that hole is there. It doesn't attach to anything in particular in these images:

Missing Bolt/Hole with no apparent purpose

    Hello all,

I recently replaced my van's thermostat and waterpump, and am in the process of re-assembling the van.

After I put on the water pump and attached the adjusting bar, I noticed that...

    Re: Replacing your van's thermostat

So I'm working on replacing my thermostat and for some reason the housing will not come off. I've removed both 12mm nuts, yet the housing doesn't want to slide off. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Sticky: Where to buy parts

I was wondering where the best place to buy OEM parts would be online. I've come across a couple sites like https://parts.olathetoyota.com/ and toyotapartsdeal.com but don't know if either of these...
  26. Re: Getting to know all the coolant hoses of your Vanwagon!

  27. Re: Getting to know all the coolant hoses of your Vanwagon!

Do these part numbers apply to automatic transmission vans?

And where is the best place to find these parts new and OEM?
  28. Re: Heater working spontaneously; coolant not visible from filler neck

Okay, so I got a pressure test on the cooling system done and also got a test for exhaust fumes in the cooling system done.

The test for exhaust in the cooling system came back negative, so it's...
  29. Re: Heater working spontaneously; coolant not visible from filler neck

Hey Gwen, thanks so much for the information. It took maybe something like 1/3 to 1/2 a gallon of coolant to get it up to where it was visible in the filler neck. Fortunately I didn't drive it much...
  30. Re: Heater working spontaneously; coolant not visible from filler neck

I'm wondering if a coolant system pressure test would be worthwhile at this point before I do the flush.

This might reveal that the thermostat's bad (which is what I'm suspecting is the issue),...
  31. Re: Heater working spontaneously; coolant not visible from filler neck

    Thanks for your advice!

So I filled up the filler neck with coolant so I can go buy the flush kit (going to do a flush later today) and the heat almost instantly worked. I'll keep you posted...
  32. Heater working soradically; coolant not visible from filler neck

    Hello all,

I recently bought my first Toyota Van Wagon (two months ago) and am starting to experience issues with it. The first thing I noticed the other day was that the heater in the front...
