CEL code 42
How do you fix a code diagnostic 42

Re: CEL code 42
On 4wd automatic vans there is a speed sensor on the back of the transfer case. If you're getting a code 42 that's an indication the speed sensor has failed or the wiring to it is damaged. It comes off by removing 1 bolt & unplugging it from the harness. This can be referenced in the on-line manual TF-9 (or PDF page 427). Tim

Re: CEL code 42
thank you I think I need to change my instrument cluster. It has transmission fluid inside from the speedo cable. The speedometer gear sleeve in the trans has an o ring and when those wear they let fluid pass and the corkscrew affect of the cable turning brings fluid into the instrument cluster. Maybe the oil has damaged the speed sensor in the speedo head. I will replace the o ring try to clean up the speedo clear code and try again
