I've done more research and the input shaft is o different splines. - I'm told you can swap the auto input to the hi/lo and then its a bolt in, other than the linkage.

The input is different spline and different length. It requires a near complete teardown of the transfercase but there really isn't anything complex to the job and yes, once it's swapped the t-case bolts right in. This is how I did mine.

Re: Single speed to 2 speed transfer case swap

    Hey guys,

I finally scored my 2 speed transfer case after years of searching, I'm hoping to get it all in and working by the end of the summer. I had the TC shipped to me and, when it arrived, the speedometer cable housing had broken in-transit. No big deal, I have a couple of spares laying around. However, when I pulled it out I noted the "speedometer driven gear" from the 2 speed TC has 20 teeth while the one out of the auto trans has 22 teeth. My question is, which gear would be the appropriate one for what I'm trying to do here?

My first inclination would be to roll with the 20 tooth that came out of it, but I'm wondering if that will mess with the reading on my speedometer? I could also swap the "speedometer drive gear" from the automatic and keep the 22 tooth speedo driven gear that's currently on the van. I didn't see this addressed in the thread and a search of the forum didn't have an answer so I figured I'd ask here.

The gear is different because the ratios in the differentials are different between the manual and automatics. When I did mine, I was running 27X8.50r14 tires and using the 20 tooth gear was almost perfect to correct the speedometer inaccuracy from the larger tires. If you are running stock tires you should be able to use the 22 tooth gear.

I'm running the same size tires as you were, so I'll start off with the 20 tooth and see how accurate it is. Thank you!
