Shoot, anyone have a cache of spares and want to part with one? Want to check before swallowing the ebay prices.

I bought a parts van simply for the igniter and a few other bits I donít need it but I have a very nice van and can not afford to not have spares maybe someone else has a few?

    Re: How to test igniter?

    Thanks for the info jbtechtold.

Not sure if this applies to the 'ole 79 igniter on the TV, but this youtube video came up showing how to test 1990's Toyota igniters with 12v, 5v, and continuity setting on your multimeter. The guy had to use an oscilloscope and a logic tester to verify though so I probably won't be experimenting with this anytime soon. It would be neat if it worked to test the 79 igniter though.

    Re: How to test igniter?

UPDATE WITH PICS: Got an igniter from JDMVANMAN (thanks!) and put it in today but that didn't get the van started. I went to test the coil per the fsm and saw this:

Any idea what would cause this? Wondering if i need a whole new Distributor or just a coil?

Looks like you just need a coil. You can get them anywhere

    Re: How to test igniter?

It does haha, just melted plastic though I guess. The cap looked fine, I changed the cap and rotor not all that long ago with Toyota stuff. Duralast coil from autozone got it running. Some of those screws securing the coil as well as the distributor cap are not fun. Thanks for the moral support everyone

    Also thanks to my helper:

You replaced the coil without removing the distributor? I just did mine, didnt even want to try thos bottom 2 screws, just yanked the whole distributor.

Yeah, it was really only the one next to the block that was hard. The dipstick and fuel line coming off the fuel filter create quite a puzzle. I went through 5 different screwdrivers to find the right combo of length and unobtrusive handle. A thin long 8" or so phillips would have been the ticket I think if I had one. Or one of those right angle screw drivers maybe. But yeah, the amoubt of time it took me fiddling with it I probably could have pulled the whole distributor

    Re: How to test igniter?

Also maybe some a useless tip but i "tested" my igniter by stabing the leads that go to the distributor with a logic probe and cranking just to see if it made and broke ground. Red light should flash on and off. Not a real test but it made me feel like it was good lol.
