    Question Pitman arm

I need a new pitman arm for my 1984 Toyota Van LE (power steering)
I also have a mechanic who will let me find my own parts.

What keywords should I be searching for? Is the pitman arm also called something else? Or is the idler arm something else completely?

    I found this: http://www.toyotaoempartsworld.com/p...&siteid=215233

http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/531448 Hopefully you don't need the center steering control arm.......it is an L shaped piece with a knuckle at one end

Below your feet under the front of the van is the steering gear housing. The pitman arm is attached to that. It is a short link attached to the steering gear housing with a large nut.

At the other end of the pitman arm is a short drag link (short bar with grease fittings at each end 90 degrees to one another) that connects to a Y-shaped "center arm".

If the pitman arm cracked I believe you can get one from a salvage yard. Or they are apparently still available:

But you had better cross reference it with your VIN number.

If there is a leak in the housing, you can get the seal:

    Re: Pitman arm

Thank you! I'll be sure to ask in more detail what it is that needs to be fixed/replaced so I can make sure I'm purchasing what is actually needed. Your input is valued!
