Tried to move the distributor to adjust timing on my 84 with MT. Wouldn't budge. Used a drift and a hammer and moved it slightly, but timing did not change. Then I banged it back.
Now it is running badly.
What are the chances I cracked the bottom of the housing? Anyone had that experience?

craftech i too had a distributor that was frozen in place like yours. luckily i had a spare kickin round so i went in with some pb blaster and assorted prying tools. after some good swear words a quite a few good hacks at it she came out. i did end up destroying the thing but sometimes ya gotta do what it calls for. so i,d say first round up a distributor then get after it. i wonder ... is the dist connected to the oil pump on these motors? maybe remove the oil pan and try to drift it up through the bottom? just thinkin out loud. best of luck to ya. when i get jammed up wrenchin on my van i say out loud "nobody can hear you scream when you,re in outer space"
Thanks for the suggestion. I am hoping for the best. I need to get it inspected and renew the registration this month. PB Blaster was started yesterday. It is freezing cold here for the past several days which doesn't help.
You asked if the distributor is connected to the oil pump and the answer is YES. The bottom of the distributor shaft has a shape like a flat tipped screwdriver that fits into a mating end on top of the oil pump shaft when you install the distributor.
Also, the 84 - 85 distrubutors have a vacuum advance. Later years do not.

We have the same problem. We have used PB blaster applied liberally for over a week. We have pried until distributor case broke off. We have used dry ice. We have moved it up about .01 inches. (10 thousands) with a 5lb slide hammer in about an hour. We removed the clamp bolt. Are we missing something?
What did you finally do? HELP!!!
