Fiber Optics In 1986 Toyota Van!!!!

As the dash board of my 86 LE gets refurbished I came along something that was most interesting. A fiber optic cable that comes out of the cigarette lighter light. It is about 12 inches long and goes nowhere. Anybody know what this is and where it goes??

I love that little fiber optic cable. It is used to illuminate the ashtray. There is a piece of plastic on the top ashtray mount with a hole in it that the cable end fits into. Toyota used it a lot in their 80's vehicles.
