Rear drive shaft detonates from transfer case:(

I was driving the thing and at 55mph she detached from the transfer case .... Beating the bottom of my van into submission.. (So lucky the drive shaft didn't blow threw the gas tank )... Can this part be replaced or should I just get a new shaft and transmission ? I'm sure the drive shaft is bent to hell..

thanks for any advice or knowledge on this subject

headed to the junk yard tomorrow .. Thanks

In the first place I would want to find out why/how the shaft came out.

Generally speaking, you have to unbolt the shaft from the diff, before you can slide the splined end out??

That's a flanged output on the transfer case. There should have been a large nut holding the flange to the output shaft. Your driveshaft is then attached to the flange with four bolts or in this case it looks like the flange is studded and the shaft secured with nuts. The flange nut is usually on really tight and is either a locknut or is staked. This should NOT have come loose. Have you done or had done any transmission or transfer case work recently? You could have the shaft checked by a reputable driveshaft shop but the t-case output shaft may be damaged. It should have a threaded portion on the very end with splines further up as it extends into the t-case. From the looks of it you'll at least need a new output flange.

I don't have access to a Previa manual but I know the Van and Previa cases are very similar. My Van manual says the companion flange nut is torqued to 90 ft lbs and it is staked. Again, it should NOT have come loose.

Not sure why the double picture post .. Hard to use this forum on an iPhone I guess .. Anyway , the threads look a little jacked , hard troflroflroflroflrofl from that crappy photo, and it looks like the speedo gear has blown up as well ..

Im going to pull the unit and maybe just swap the whole case out ..
