    Viscous coupler?

Has anyone in here replaced the viscous coupler in the transfer case on a Previa? there is one in my area for sale that the front end is binding.

    Re: Viscous coupler?

I have not replaced the viscous coupling alone, but have replaced the entire transfer case twice. After that I converted it to 2 wheel drive by locking the transfer and removing the front drive shaft. No problems since then - it was a couple of years ago now. There is a thread on this, maybe you've seen it - Disabling AWD on 95 All Trac. My front diff was also making noise unless I overfilled it with oil, so I removed that too and put 2wd knuckles on. $30 from scrap yard. I prefer it, actually, from a "less stuff to fail" perspective.
If the van is a good price and seems healthy otherwise, it might be worth it - this conversion is likely to solve the front end issue, is pretty easy to do and costs very little.
Of course, if you're getting the van specifically for the all trac, my suggestions are completely worthless!
