The library article TVT Features briefly runs you through what the TVT site includes, and where you can personalize your profile, van blog, and other settings.
For avatars specifically — If you look in the very top right corner of any TVT site page, you'll see links to manage your account. Click on "Settings" and you'll find a list of settings to edit and manage in a sidebar to the left. "Edit Avatar" is one of the "My Profile" settings.
