    Security certificate

I received the following Google message when I tried to open a page. This seems to be different than the previous "dangerous website" thread so I thought a new post was warranted.

    Re: Security certificate

Yes, it used to be free and automatic (included with the software), but now they want $26 per year. We initially ignored the notices because we were not aware they had changed things. We're getting it worked out & hopefully things will be back to normal by the end of the day. Thanks for the heads-up and sorry for the inconvenience. Tim

    Re: Security certificate

Lol, so when I took the bait they increased the price to $64 per year . I'm now looking at alternatives, so it might take another 24 hrs or so. Sorry for the inconvenience. Tim

    Re: Security certificate

At first I thought this was because of the nationwide google cloud network outtage.

Happy to be back on, Thanks Tim!

    Re: Security certificate

Well, the internet is getting more dangerous and security costs money so I just decided to pay the man. I really don't have time to mess with this anyhow & don't want the site to suffer. We'll look at some other options before this comes around again next year. We'll also look at some other software package deals because it's been a while and it might be time to make some other changes/upgrades anyhow. Regarding the security certificate everything should be back to normal within the next 24 hrs . Tim

    Re: Security certificate

Unfortunately yes, Since about 3am this morning we have been under attack by spammers. There have been ~50 new registrations and they are still coming in @ ~ 1 or 2 every 10 minutes. Llamavan is on top of it and is deleting them now as soon as they show up. She is also working on changing the settings so all new users will no longer be able to post until we verify their accounts.

For any legitimate new users, we are sorry about that.....but it should only take us a few hrs at most to verify your accounts. If/when these spammers ease up we will likely go back to the old way that allows everybody to post right after they register. We will also be checking to see if there's any updates to the forum software available that can help with this issue. Tim

    Re: Security certificate

Thank you Tim and Llamavan for all the hard-work you continue to do. I was worried the forum had be compromised and information had been lost.
Is there anything we can do to help out?

    Re: Security certificate

LOL, I need patience in 55 gallon drums, delivered!

It takes quite a few steps to ban these idiots and also track down all the IPs they use and deal with those as well. It's just tedious stuff; eventually they'll run out of IPs and not be able to come back. With the settings for new members toughened up for now, I can actually get other stuff done in between nuking sessions.

They're also sending us spam via the "contact us" button, which adds another challenge.
