Physical engine dimensions, anyone have them?

I do love these vans, always have.
but now you can’t get headgaskets!?!!
parts are scarce, I get it. Happens to many of the classics sooner or later.
so I have a customer who installs tdi VW engines in custom trail buggies and jeeps
and Toyota pick ups! Pretty neat. 30 mpg and parts are easy.
got me thinking.
tdi? A lot of work but decent rewards. Very similar hp and a lot more torque.
subaru? Dime a dozen for a complete car that needs head gaskets.
so does anyone know the dimensions of the 3y/ 4y motors?
with and without accessories would be good info.
i realize they are great workhorses, but if parts aren’t available...
anyway, I’d like to start doing some research.

Not sure what your saying about head gasket... they can be had at several places.

Rock Auto for example has quite a few options for these vans.

Theres plenty of mechanical parts still available imo. Some parts are getting scarce, sure... but theres always work arounds. Wouldn't mind seeing a v-dub tdi stuffed in, but it might be a tad tall for this application.

I was recently reading about the OE head gasket being no longer available.
and I’ve read plenty of horror stories about aftermarket ones.
i realize that needs to be taken with a handful of salt.
i guess I’m just nervous about dumping a lot of time and money into this.
i was looking at a buddies fork truck that I believe had a 3y and it’s tiny!
i have to wait and get mine In The air and do a serious evaluation.
maybe I’m trying to talk myself out of because I’ve too much on my plate right now.
but the wheels are turning (not on the van though! The brakes are all seized!)
