    Removing rear shocks

How do I remove the top nut from my rear shocks? I'm referring to the nut that is accessible from inside the van. When I turn it it seem to spin but not get loose. I feel like there a simple solution here that I'm missing.. Thanks!

There is actually a special tool for that job.
Its a socket that fits perfectly over the ovalish' bit above the threads.

That said, a small pair of vice grips should prove worthy.
Some (most?) shocks will be retained by a lock nut of some sort, but some shocks are double nutted.

Worst case scenario, as long as you are NOT re-using those shocks, would be to install a bigger set of Vice grips lower down (below the threads)

Use and impact, if that doesnt work the tip of the shock rod has a flat spot on it that you can grab with a pair of pliers.
