Hi all, I am new to the forum and just got an 89 Van Cargo. I purchased it from a friend, who I have known for a long time and is a respectable mechanic.

Overheating


The van overheats under load. It will idle indefinitely with the needle just under the half way mark, and can be driven gently around town a little bit, but will overheat soon after. The coolant steams off out of the overflow. My friend has done the following:

New radiator and tube of death, and service including high pressure coolant flush and over night pressure test, system holds pressure over night

HC test, which he says never turned yellow.

Is this comparable to the OEM valve grind kit?

90301-07001 QTY: 4 O-ring for between fuel rail and injector
90301-23004 QTY: 4 O-ring for between manifold and injector
23291-73010 QTY: 4 Insulator for manifold side of injector
90480-13005 QTY: 4 Grommet for rail side of injector

I am looking into a local machine shop as well, but also have a bit of machining experience so if it isnt too bad I might try to deck it myself on a Bridgeport, that is assuming that https://forkliftengineparts.com/prod...-new-complete/ would be a suitable replacement

Having done the head gasket in a couple Subarus before, I will probably also replace the head bolts, I don't know to what extent the van has been driven while overheating, but my friend said he tried to take good care of it.

Hi, I am tagging this thread also.
I do not (yet) have to replace my headgasket, but I do want to do the injectors, as they look like they are original, and they are very loose (as in, they try to spin around when the engine vibrates)
I figured I need to get injectors, probably some connectors (already had to replace the one on cylinder 1), the 4 rubber rings, a pintle cap?, and the gaskets for the inlet manifold. (and maybe have the stuff for the exhaust manifold on hand as well, if I see a leak when the inlet manifold is off)
I will also replace the hoses within the inlet manifold bend, but I have generic silicone hose at hand.

But yeah, I also want to make sure I have all the parts I need, as some stuff just takes a long while to get through customs.

By the way, the connector on my injectors looks more like an bosch ev1 connector

I replaced the one on the first cylinder, you can easily see / replace it without dismantling anything. I used the same connector, as on the thermo sensors and other stuff...

I read recently on here about replacing injectors with a Bosch model. I'm thinking i may do that as well because connectors are more common. I guess you have to re do the wiring harness to fit the connectors?

Oh really? Are mine not original? I honestly have no idea, but on mine the connector is the bosch ev1 connector. I do not have access to another van, to see if it has different injectors/connectors.
