New to the board and to these vans. Looking at a 1987 4x4. The underside is pretty clean but, oddly, for this one crossbar. (See pic). What the heck is it? Is it important and is it easy to replace? Is it indicative of any larger issues? Appreciate any help.

Re: What is this rusty thing
It is there to protect the horizontally mounted a/c condenser just behind it. From the looks of it yours has been working overtime at it's job. They aren't exceptionally sturdy or thick but are reasonable for the prescribed job. One of mine broke off years ago when I thought it was a good place for a recovery strap and I have managed to inflict just one small dent to the condenser without it despite a fair amount of off-road abuse. Replacement could be a new piece of tubing welded in at a muffler shop otherwise I wouldn't be too concerned.
