    Can't believe it.

It's Saturday and this morning I was busy making fruit/veggie boxes and bags for low income families here in the Oakland.

I decided to go fill up gas and was gonna head back to San Francisco, then I figured, it's 4:30, let me drive down to the JY.

I get there at 4:45, knowing they are closing at 6. I paid my $2 and figured to check the previas they had.

1st Previa, nothing. So I started to go down the rows and then I came up on another previa. It had the hood and bumper bra on. hmm, might take that for fun and put in on my van.

I went to the sliding door and looked in, nothing. Open the passenger side door and looked at the dash, then looked down.

    MY HEART STARTED RACING!!!!

I went back to my van, got my sockets and screw drivers.

Took about 20 mins to get it out and get all the components. But I got it!!! Took it and the bottom cover pieces and wrapped it in a seat cover to carry. When I paid, I told them it was a center console piece and kept it partial covered.

    $5.99 + $3.99x2 for the side pieces.

    I am ecstatic!!!

Could NOT believe it. A cool box in California and the van has been there for about 2 weeks (tons of missing parts).

you need to go back and get all the A/C pipes and wires... they are all very different!
Refer to the shop manual and catalogs to know exactly what you want

I got all the wiring going into the dash and brackets.

In the AM, I'll be there to get the coolant lines.

I don't think these ever came in US spec (this was a 92), am I correct?

Yup, gonna get underneath the van and get the A/C lines. I was surprised of how many bolt were behind it. I was working quickly to get it before they closed.

Did you get the VIN of the van? What did the speedometer show?

Hmm, I didn't even think about it.

It was SUPER RUSTED underneath, I mean crumbling and flaking pieces everywhere. I don't think that is typical of a Cali car.

I might go check it out again this Wednesday as there was another previa that was being processed.

I read, which I take with a grain of salt, on wikipedia that cool boxes were offered in Non US spec previas. Not only that, I've seen a couple different versions too.

Mine simply has an cool and off switch. There is one with cool, hot and off buttons and a slanted looking cool box.

For now though, it is just a small storage unit.

right.. there was a cool & warm box version, which I think ducted heat from the heater core into it... not sure
but the cool only one should be a lot easier to retrofit... just make sure you get as much of everything as you can and slowly work on adding it in later

Wow! I sighting in the wild!
I think that's pretty "cool", even if it's just a storage chamber.

    Re: Can't believe it.

TheMan - Yeah, the coolant lines were a pain as it was getting all up in the rusted areas. Eventually I'll go make in fully functional.

Pdgizwiz - Yup, kinda interesting to see it. I didn't even realize it as I first looked at the dash and cup holders and then it totally caught my attention. I RAN to back to my van to get the tools.

The weird thing is that the van was already ripped a part from the steering wheel and other areas. I'm glad that nobody also damaged the hell out of it too.

But, saved it from the crusher!
