Removing fill bolt on front differential

I drained the front differential months ago, and am now realizing what a challenge it will be to remove the fill bolt. Just thought i'd ask if anyone had a trick for doing this?

Almost too late for this advice! ALWAYS give it the FINGER before draining. i.e. OPEN the FILL PLUG and insert YOUR FINGER and check for GEAR FLUID. My problem is that my fill plugs on both the front diff and transfer case plugs were rounded off by the former owner. I've tried chisel, vice grips and channel locks. I don't have a good source for a heat treatment, but I'm going to try a new pipe wrench? GOOD LUCK!

Accessibility absolutely sucks here. I half unbolted my front diff and I think the radiator and steering rack and then pried the diff in different directions in order to gain enough access to remove a stripped fill plug. Good luck indeed.

Thankfully, mine is not rounded off. I think I can cut a socket down, and get it in there.

I had to cut the rear plug out, it was pretty messed up. I cut a slit in the face and then hit it with an impact driver and it spun. You may be able to do this on the front with a dremel, and then get an air ratchet in there with a flat driver bit. It's a tight spot.

I didnt realize how tight it is once its installed.Lucky for me i filled it before i put the new replacement axle in.good luck with your efforts to remove the drain plug.To me it looks like there is just enough room for my 24mm snap-on 6 point socket and ratchet.A pump with a fill tube would be needed for sure.
