I have a throttle body from a 1986 Van with a 2.2L.
Does any body know if it is the same as one on a 1984 Van with a 2.0 ?
Bigger butterfly? Same bolt pattern? Haven't had a chance to compare them yet and was looking for a way to in prove the flow and get more air in the engine.

there is just one small difference between gen 1 and 2 that I have found just recently is that one of the vacuum snorkels faces a 180 degrees opposed
Just a silly observation one my part
According to Toyota's EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog) Toyota made a total of 2 throttle bodies for the van. The exact same part number is called out for every van manufactured from 08/1983-07/1988 & that is Toyota part #22210-73031. The other throttle body is part #22210-73022 and was used on the 1989 model year only (08/1988 to the end of van production 12/1989). I'm not sure what the difference is/was as I have interchanged freely between all years without noticing any differences. I study things very closely when swapping out, so I can't imagine missing something like a vacuum nozzle pointing the wrong direction, but I suppose it's possible. My 89 van is running with an 87 TB on it now and all the vacuum lines were fine using the same length as before and no funky bends going on. Tim

I know the Celica uses the same throttle position sensor as our vans, so I'd have to assume the TB is similar too, but no idea if the bolt pattern or anything else would work. Tim
As I previously freaked out about in this post, I pulled off my throttle body to learn that it was pretty boned. JDM VANMAN (member here in case you didn't already know) took pity on my plight and express shipped me a throttle body that he pulled for me over the holiday weekend (he's a good man). Best I can tell, the replacement TB came off a '87 2WD Cargo van. For reference, my van is a '88 4x4. Anyways, when I put the two side by side there are some differences. Photos work better than anything I can say so here are the shots.
The original TB is on the right side, the replacement is on the left. As you can see, one of the vacuum lines is pointed the opposite direction on the replacement compared to the original. If you flip them over, where the pencil is pointing is a hole that is present on the original that is not present on the replacement. Do you think the differences in the replacement throttle body will have any adverse effects on my van? Can the vacuum lines be rotated? Where does the mystery hole in the second picture go? Are we alone in the universe?
I understand that this a very minute detail regarding a very specific aspect of our already strange vans so I get that an answer may not be out there. If all else fails I'll clean it up and throw it on the van on Saturday and update with results.
Very interesting. I'm surprised I didn't notice that before (I've swapped out a lot of throttle bodies). I probably wouldn't try to rotate, I'd just get a little longer vacuum hose and make it do the 180 deg turn. I don't see any reason why not to swap them. Tim

Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad you got the part but I think that vacuum line may have gotten spun around during cleaningit wants like that when I sent it or in the pictures I sent you.
I'm not sure about the hole in the back, have you cleaned your original to see if it has one too?

After I posted I realized that it may have been confusing to read that the TB on the right in the photos is actually the original (bad) one instead of the other way around. I threw the original in chem-dip this week while I waited for the replacement to arrive. I'll give the replacement a similar treatment before I throw it on the van. The vacuum lines on both throttle bodies are fine and just as Toyota intended when they made them, one is just backwardsI think that vacuum line may have gotten spun around during cleaning

As far as the hole goes on the replacement TB, unless it is really gummed up with carbon, it never existed. I'm going to get some more cleaning supplies and a 12-pack and work on it tonight and see what I can find out.
It took all day but the new throttle body is on and the van runs like a champ! I finally cleared the last code on the van (it had 3 stored as recently as March) and it runs better and smoother than it ever has since I have owned it! The backwards vacuum nozzle really threw me for a loop and I somehow ended up forgetting where anything went but was able to use the vacuum diagram sticker slapped on the van and it all went together almost a little too easy.

Throttle Body coolant hose broken????
Hey all, new to this forum...just got my first 1986 toyota van home yesterday, and already love it but have found a few coolant leaks i need to adress. there is a hose that connects to the throttle body just under the big black air tube that comes from the air cleaner to the throttle body. where this hose connects, the tube coming off the throttle body has corroded and broken off. i plugged the two lines with a bolt as best i could and they held for the drive home, but id like to fix it properly. is there anybody that has had this happen and fixed it without needing a new throttle body? is there anybody who has a throttle body sitting around they can part with? from what ive found toyota does not sell this part anymore, nor does any other vehicle have the same TB i can take from.
Also, what does this hose do? ive never seen a coolant hose go into a throttle body before.

this picture shows the broken tube that came off of the throttle body (where the bolt is plugging off currently)
is there anyway to fix this succesfully or am i better off finding a new one?
The TB is discontinued from Toyota and has been for about 10 years now.
What I did because I am not in a cold climate, I just bypassed the TB bridging the coolant hose between the two feeds to the TB. The coolant I believe prevents the throttle body plate from freezing closed. There is no temp sensor in the TB I recall. Your temp sensor for coolant is at the neck of the radiator cap So if you do not live in a place that gets below freezing I would not worry about implementing this workaround
