    87 Van 2wd O2 Sensor Light

    Hi everyone,

I am reaching out about my 87 Van Wagon. I bought it with 186k miles and after driving it for a few months I figured I'd do some basic maintenance. (No issues prior to this) I changed the plugs (denso p16r with 0.43 gap), air filter, and rotor/cap/wires. After getting everything was back together and triple checked that my wires are in the correct orientation, the van sputters/cuts out when giving it throttle. It is throwing an engine code that says there is an issue with the O2 sensor (4 blinking light over and over again). I tried un plugging the O2 sensor but am getting the same response. It sounds like there is static coming from the distributor/spark plugs area. I am located in seacoast New Hampshire. Do you have any recommendations for me? I am stumped as I've never felt so defeated doing such basic maintenance hahaha. Thanks!

Well, maybe with the engine running unplug each spark plug wire, and listen to the enige noise. If it drops rpm, and sounds worse, that one is firing, and probably okay. plug it back in. If you unplug one, and nothing changes, that plug is the issue. Then troubleshoot that plug, could be a broke spark plug wire, defective plug, or the wire is not pushed on the plug all the way. Sounds silly, but it happens, i had one, it looked fine, felt fine when plugging in, but unplugging an plugging it fixed it.
if not, put the old cap and rotor back. Are they the same brand? Some do not play well together.
