1995 Townace 2.2 TD, looking at buying one, so a few newbie questions!
Hello all,
I am looking at buying a 1995 Townace 2.2 TD auto this weekend, i am in the UK and don't know much about these vans. I wanted to take some engine oil with me, in case it needs topping up. What is the recommended viscosity? And any specific recommendations?
Also any obvious things to look out for when checking it before buying?
Known issues are:
Speedometer not working.
To move the gear shifter from park to drive, the small button needs to be pressed, it doesn't work just by holding the brake pedal.
It will probably need a cambelt change, is that expensive?
Do they suffer from rust? Any known points to look at?
I'm sure i'll have plenty of questions if i do buy it, so thank you in advance for any help received.

It is a 30 year old vehicle, in my opinion it is better to get comfortable doing some mechanical maintenance yourself.
https://www.toyotavantech.com/forum/...l-be-the-same)
not only because it wil save you a lot of money (everything takes longer to do on these vans. To remove the belt, on a normal car, you open the bonnet. With these van’s you start by removing the seat, etc… if that takes the mechanic an extra hour, and an extra hour to put it back in…)
If you do maintenance stuff yourself, you also know what tools you need, and how to best take things apart, should you ever need to do that in case of an unscheduled breakdown.
about the oil… as you don’t know what is in it now… pff 5w30, 10w40 ?
Check the coolant! Whatever color it is, it should be transparent in some color, not brownish. these car’s have a lot of coolant lines, all of them can rust, leak etc. Stop leak, oil and rust make the coolant dirty. If it is filled with water, there is probably a leak and rust. And stop-leak in it, is even worse long term.

Hello Jan,
Thank you for your reply, i will do an oil change and check the coolant. I have been looking for parts for it online, and i can't seem to get any front brake discs or an exhaust.
Do you know any recommended parts suppliers who i could try?
Many thanks,
Andy

Check your's before buying! but this one is listed for the 2wd it seems:
https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/...05-2-2-td-cr40
and the 5 lug version for the 4wd:
https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/...-2-td-4wd-cr50
For the exhaust, I think you will have to ask your local friendly exhaust shop, to either fabricate one, or mix and match and tweak some other exhaust. It seems unlikely you will find a newish one locally, and shipping an exhaust may be more expensive than to fabricate one....
