I'm not sure about the doors, but Toyota is typically very frugal when it comes to prepping for options. If the van never had powered doors I'm surprised they even have the connector there. I wouldn't count on the harness or circuit being complete. Tim

Help! (please) on my 1989 4WD with manual transmission the line goes from the master to the slave cylinder (for the clutch) but stops behind the front bumper and goes in to (and comes out of) the opposite sides of a little pill bottle shaped thing with a bleeder screw on the top. That thing looks like aluminum and it is split and leaking. It is bolted to a bracket that is bolted to the back of the bumper. What is it? Does anyone have a part number or a description of what it does? Can I just replace it with a union? I am stuck and unable to drive as the fluid is pouring and out and shifting is fast becoming impossible. I pump to raise pressure and shift but the fluid leaks. This will end badly soon. Cheers, Bill

I don't understand why Toyota did this. There's a crazy long power steering line too (for no apparent reason). I would cut that thing out and put a union there. Tim

sorry for the not so great image.. but there are two sensors (or switches) here...I hope they are visible. Not exactly sure what they are or what they connect to (seems like they go into injectors?)... I notice mine seem lose/old and when fiddled with the engine stutters.

If you're talking about the tan plastic cap with 2 wires, that's the injector connector. There are 4 of them and they supply power to the injectors so the engine will run. If the engine starts to miss when you mess with them, then don't mess with them
. Actually, messing with them shouldn't make the van run bad unless the connectors are messed up. After 20 something years they get baked and start to go bad. They may need to be replaced. The front 2 aren't too bad, but the back two are a major PITA. Hopefully those ones are still okay. Tim

We cut it off, converted to American and joined the lines. 8000k later all seems well.

If you peal that crusty stuff off it will look better. Not sure why Toyota thought that stuff was necessary. It's your power steering pump return line. I think Toyota still sells these, but they are over $100 now. I finally quit buying this hose from them and switched to a non molded 5/8" ID hydraulic hose. If you go this route, be sure it's rated for hydraulic fluid as a heater hose is not likely to hold up well. Any hydraulic shop can sell this in bulk. If you really want Toyota, it's part #44348-28040. MSRP is $139.00, but it can be had for around $100 at one of those discount Toyota parts internet sites (then they'll nail you for shipping). Tim

what is this? what does it do? I'm rebuilding an 85 van and some pats are missing , I have most everything figured out , but cannot figure out what this hot wire goes to
It's what we call your "plus box" or + box. It's a junction where your big alternator wire connects to the van wire harness. I know for a fact that it's there on all 86 - 89 vans, but since I don't have any 84 - 85 vans I can't say for certain they have that. Perhaps Llamavan or somebody else with the earlier models will chime in. Tim

I do have a white hot wire that goes there, just didn't know how it connected to the alt. . should have all parts ordered by the end of the week, then time for just a little body work and paint, then start customizing interior!I will post more pics as I go. this is a great sit very informative, glad to see that there is a following for the toyota van, this is my first toyota van so very excited about the whole project, just should have happened before summer (in Florida)!!!
The RED circled doohickie is broken.. I guess I looked at it wrong
I'd like to know what these things are, as I can't seem to find the place to identify them in my owner's manual.
Also, if the (Return?) hose from the PS pump can be relocated, it might help in reduce the crimping of these wires where I've placed little red X's

If this one is broken or bad the van will run bad all the time (hot or cold won't matter). The one on the left won't make much difference this time of year (has to do with the pressure-up system for hot soak issues). Tim
