I just imported a Master Ace from Japan. Decided to drive it home from the port and it overheated multiple times. Where would you start in trying to diagnose and fix this issue? I'm not really interested in anything custom at this point, just want to return it to stock working properly. Check out my intro thread for a synopsis of what happened on the drive home.

This is my radiator cap. Should I replace it? Looks like it is part #16331F and the cross referenced part is #16401-63010 made by DENSO, is that right? What should the PSI of the cap be? The DENSO caps PSI is just under 13 from what I've been able to find. Can I use the cap that the denso part number cross referenced to I found locally with 16 PSI?

It list part numbers for diesel van. There's a listing for the radiator cap, I'm assuming it's gotta be the same for both 2C and 2CT motors? Don't quote me on that so please double check.

thanks! i got the part number for the toyotadiy cross reference site talked about here. glad i didn't order that one. big difference between 0.9 PSI and 13-16.

If the relief seal is failing it would be venting water to the reservoir. If your cap seal is failing the coolant would likely run down the front of your engine provided the fan doesn't blow it all over the place.
Replaced the battery today with a wal-mart one, and ordered a new .9 bar radiator cap.

How is your overheating issue?

Does the van have the original viscous fan? Could be the coupling/clutch is worn out and not operating properly. Also may be worth re-coring the radiator(s). (Note: not sure what year toyota introduced this, but my van is a 1990 and actually has 2 radiators. One vertical just in front of the engine and another, horizontal, a touch in front of the vertical one. This horizontal radiator has 2 (if I recall) electric powered fans. May be worth ensuring these are also functioning.

Thanks. I read a bit about recoring. Haven't driven it long enough to tell if just simply changing the cap did anything. It has the original fan and maybe the horizontal radiator too I thought I saw what looks like one with a fan and a mesh grille around it. How do I get the fan to come on?
I don't know much about wiring or electronics so I'm not sure how you can test the fan. I'm sure someone on here would though.
I think the horizontal fans are on a thermostat, so they turn on when the van reaches a certain temperature.

they turn on with the A/C.
Only the vertical radiator is for cooling the engine.
Drove around a bunch the past few days and no overheating. Haven't changed anything though so I don't think it fixed it self.
